Dwarf
Dwarves
Dwarves are short, stocky humanoids. Dwarves are one the rarest of the sapient races of Jushara. This was not always the case. Once a mighty power in Jushara, dwarves spread across, and under, the surface of the world, their mighty mountain citadels, vast cavern cities and their enormous network of underground roads the envy of any other peoples.
This was all brought to a bitter end by a brutal war and a dark magic.
A magical plague, Dwarfsbane has nearly ended their species. Dwarfsbane causes infertility in any dwarf that survives its initial poison, and is carried by dwarves and their cousins, the Gnomes. Because of this, only the most far flung or xenophobic dwarven communities survive today.

Growth Rate & Stages
Dwarves grow slowly, reaching their first puberty at around the age of 15 and reaching sexual maturity at approximately the age of 30.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Dwarves have an incredible resilient digestive system, and in fact, tend to prefer foods so bitter or spicy that they are considered by most other species inedible or even poisonous.
Civilization and Culture
Gender Ideals
Dwarven gender ideals were radically upset by the Dwarvesbane plague, which causes infertility in the vast majority of the survivors.
It is expected in most remaining dwarven cultures that those that are fertile have children, and this can cause friction among those that abhor the idea, and their communities.
Outside of population and reproduction, dwarven cultures often have an avant garde approach to gender. This existed prior to The Bane, and has been amplified by the removal of reproduction as a possible option for most dwarves.
Common Taboos
Many dwarven cultures view eating the flesh of dead creatures when there is plant material available to be wasteful and a display of avarice or even malice.
