The Avicide
The Avicide did not always answer to such a morbid moniker, but such is the way of the world.
The daughter of an ambitious Quarellian Guildsman in Konigstat, she felt a thirst for adventure from a young age, and would invent fanciful games for herself and the other guild children. It was during a game of Katz und Maus on the guild roof that her life changed forever. The girl was running along the eaves, impressing the other children with her dexterity, when a gaggle of geese assailed, attracted by the soft pretzel in her pocket. She lost her balance and crashed to the ground, two stories below. The fall alone almost killed her, but in their carb lust the gaggle gave chase, attacking with savage abandon. They ripped at her face and body, requiring six Guildmasters to chase them away. The Avicide survived, but only barely. The physicians suggested euthasia, speculating the girl would never achieve the necessary intelligence to become a guild member. Her father was conflicted; as a spring elve in a majority human kingdom, he feared an invalid daughter would ruin his already tenuous social standing, but also could not stand to see her killed. He compromised by surrendering her guardianship to the state and she was sent to recover at the Tier Genesungheim, a convalescent home for survivors of debilitating animal attacks. She spent the rest of her childhood at Tier Gensungheim, eventually recovering from the broken limbs and savage bites. An assemblage of beast victims provides fertile ground for revenge fantasies and it was here she first learned of the Cult of Ausrotten, an occult organization obsessed with extermination. Embedded deep within the Vermincatcher Guild, the Cult has four arms; Air, Water, Earth, and Underground. Members strive to annihilate the beasts in their respective domains, returning dominance to humanoids alone. Unsettling intensity propelled The Avicide up the ranks of the Cult, quickly earning her the title of Vogelscharfricter. She swore the sacred words on her 21st birthday; I will extricate avifauna Until my dying breath Creatures dark and soulless Deserve only death May blood run down my fingers As I crush futile bone I must rid the sky of feathers It belongs to me alone I litter the ground with bird corpses Steadfast in my quest When the passerine have all passed on Then I may finally rest For the next six years she hunted across Thrask, entrails and feathers collecting in her wake. When she heard of a new land known for its enormous and terrible creatures, her interest was piqued and she sold everything she owned to take the next boat to Kyneslund. After a tiny misunderstanding the first day at sea (she heard about the “crow’s nest” and tried to burn it), The Avicide spent most of the journey locked in the brig. At landfall, she swore an oath to rain fury on the island’s feathered creatures, and hasn’t looked back since.
