Other fields and subjects are added according to the current situation of the Two Families and the world.

Requirements

Each keeper has their own criteria to decide who would be the best successor, but in every case the heir must have Two strands of magical blood.

Appointment

Often the change of keeper occurs at the same time with the general national elections, in order to give them the title of mayor as well. Other than that, they don follow any special ceremony, but the process tends to take a long time in private, during which the previous Keeper puts the new one up to date.

Duties

Protect the members of The Two Families

Prevent magic overuse

Preserve the harmony among the wizards, and with their neighbors.

Responsibilities

Decide when to restraint an infractor of the Two Families' law

Interpret laws (and add new ones if needed)

Regulate external relations, and act as the town's mayor

Grounds for Removal/Dismissal

While there are precedents of other magical societies changing their leaders, it has often been violent and... well, without intention to judge, that's probably one of the reasons for which they are now extinct.
As far as The Two Families are concerned, once the Keeper fails them they will be doomed. Of course, there is hope as long as said keeper designates someone else to take the position.
