Izanami-no-Mikoto, She Who Invites
The Story of the Bride and Groom, Cast into the Dark
Once, long ago, when Koryo was still young, there was a beautiful Yokai who married a talented Onmyouji, one of Saiha’s brightest pupils. The bride was a pure, untainted soul, the radiance of her smile said to rival the rays of the great Taiyou in the sky. They lived happily together, wanting for naught but a single thing. A child. Legend has it that try as they might, the bride was not able to bear her husband any children. In desperation, the husband attempted to use Onmyoudo to make her fertile and while his bride slept, he cast the spell to bless them with a child. However, the legend says that the wife awoke whilst he was casting the spell, startling him and causing him to lose control. Instead of a healthy child, the bride fell deathly ill and instead gave birth to the deformed leech child Hiruko, born without skin or bones. The husband made to try again, but to his shock and his wife’s detriment, she gave birth yet again, this time to an infant covered in burning flames- Kagutsuchi, the flame deity. Already weak from disease, the bride succumbed to the internal burns of the childbirth and passed away. Despairing and in a rage, the husband killed the two newborns who had stolen his beloved wife away from him and wept over their bodies. The story tells that after he regained his composure, he lamented and regretted his actions and undertook a voyage to the underworld of Naraku to bring his beloved and his two children back to the world above. When he found her, he could not see her for the shadows hid her appearance. His bride responded that it was too late, that she was now one with the land of the dead. The Onmyouji was shocked yet refused to leave her behind, promising to save her. He took her by the hand and made to leave with her, lighting a torch as he did. When she was bathed in the light, he saw the horrid form of his once beautiful bride reduced to nothing more than a rotting sack of maggot-infested flesh and rot, the decomposing forms of their children clutched in her arms. Seeing her, the husband could not control his fear. He fled and abandoned her. Enraged, the bride gave chase, screaming about love-lost and his broken promise to save her. Upon exiting the underworld, the husband sealed the entrance and cast her into Yomi, the Land of Shadows and Death with a powerful binding spell as the bride screamed she would destroy 1000 residents of the living world a day. The husband furiously responded that he would give life to protectors of the world, siring Susanoo the Storm Monarch, Amaterasu the Sun Monarch, and Tsukuyomi the Moon Monarch. As for the bride, legend has it that cast aside and isolated in the darkness, the bride spiraled into madness until she was reborn as something else…The Yomotsugami, the Angel of the Abyss, the Demon Queen of loneliness, rot, decay, and betrayal. She would go on to rule over Yomi, her mind becoming polluted with the notion that life is brutal, lonely, and evil, lamenting her betrayal at the hands of her beloved. She Who Invites

"Then They, the demons who held the trumpets prepared to sound them, to welcome Her.
The first demon sounded their trumpet, and a great star, blazing like a torch, fell from the sky on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water— the name of the star is Setsuna. The waters became rough and turbulent and many people died as they raged and carved across the land. Thus was The First Crest of Blood Complete.
The second trumpet was sounded, and there came hail and fire mixed with disease and sickness, and it was hurled down upon the land. A third of the land succumbed, a third of the sky was riddled with sickness, and all the green grass spread rampantly. Thus was the Second Crest of Blood Complete.
The third demon sounded their trumpet, and something like a huge mountain, all ablaze, was cast into the sea. A third of the sea boiled and turned rancid, a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the living creatures on land died.
The fourth demon sounded their trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them turned dark. A third of the day was without light, and also a third of the night. Thus was the Fourth Crest of Blood Complete.
As I watched, a flying beast called out in a loud voice: 'Rejoice! Rejoice! Rejoice ye faithless, for the time of salvation has come! The time to be freed from all suffering alongside She Who Invites!'
They have as Queen over Them, the angel of the Abyss. A star fallen from grace, She used the power from the Crests and opened the shaft of the bottomless pit, and from the shaft rose smoke like that of a great furnace, and the sun and the air were darkened by Yomi.
For the Beasts that come up out of the Abyss would make war with them and overcome them… and kill them.
But they were not allowed to kill, but only to torture them, picking at their flesh and spreading Her rot and decay. And the agony they suffered was like that of the sting of a scorpion when it strikes. During those days people will seek death but will not find it; they will long to die, but death will elude them. They will suffer until they succumb and live for the rest of eternity alongside her, free from life’s pain and loneliness. That is the truth of She Who Invites
