Kaerinthe

Kaerinthe is a world walked by powerful Ether spirits and defined by The Calling; the brief span of time every many weeks, for as long as history has lasted, when planes converge and the Far Gods' creations trawl the land. The Calling has shaped Kaerinthe. Animals and plants alike have evolved around its very existence, yet men were not content to merely exist alongside it.
The first breakthrough came nearly two centuries ago when a team of powerful soldiers pursued and slew a Greater Ether in the Mendolas Stormplains. These were the first Stormreapers and they collected an essence known as Etherios, a magic far beyond humanity's arcane or divine powers. Yet this power could not be harnessed by people. It could, however, be harnessed by the gears of technology.
As such, the ancient mountain metropolis of Galfridian, one of many such relics of history, was rebuilt and with it came the founding of the Stormreapers and the advent of the Lightning Rail. Today, teams of Stormreapers are received like celebrities each time they venture out during The Callings in pursuit of valuable Etherios, helping power the great nations of Kaerinthe with Ethertech.
Despite these great victories, many secrets remain, hidden away across the continent and across the Multifold. Nations still wage war upon one another and struggle for power while monsters roam the wilds.
One such war has reached a truce but two years ago, triggered originally by the assassination of the Good King and Queen of the Orenmagne Empire. The power vacuum and devastation have caused instability from within. Rogue mages, monstrous threats, local crime lords, rival guilds, insidious cults, and political dissidence all threaten to undermine the balance. As such, unofficial shadow conflicts rage on, and resources are spread thin.
The people of Kaerinthe's sprawling, technologically advanced cities face struggles for power, crime, resources, and intrigue. Meanwhile out on the frontiers lie dangerous threats, rogue factions, magical landscapes, and abandoned ruins. Both offer opportunities to uncover more of Kaerinthe's shrouded history and engage with diverse cultures across the land. There is always work to be had for able bodied folk.
