Merchants have been the core of commerce since the beginning of civilization. In San Francisco they come in all forms, from megacorporation brokers dealing goods in the millions of longs, to the ramen merchant at the end of the road barely making ends meet. All of them trade goods and services for wealth. A few merchants trade in more subtle wares, operating as arms dealers, espionage, and other black-market dealings.

BROKER

As gamblers of a different type, brokers arrange sales and organize the transport of the goods. A broker is an important third party, making sure both sides get their fair share while also skimming some off of the top for themselves. Brokers often own private firms and work with corporations much larger than themselves. But they must be careful. At the slightest mistake a corp may attempt to ruin the broker for good – just to prove a point.

FOOD STALL

An honest career if ever there was one, street food always was, and always will be, popular with the masses. Everyone from the lowest beggar to the richest CEO needs to eat, and while their dinning is remarkably different, someone needs to be there to supply quick food to the people on the street. But the job doesn’t always stop there. A street vendor sees a lot from their little corner of the city. A stealthy eye might be worth a lot of cash to the right interests.

TRADER

From the shop fronts and back alley dealerships you who sold just about anything: some of it legal, some of it not. The method of acquiring your goods varied from day to day, whether buying wholesale from the corps or getting a shipment in from a connection on the black market. And you never really left that life behind. There are a lot of people interested in what you might be able to find with short notice, especially when money is no issue.
