Drodom
(a.k.a. The Magnanimous)
Drodom II is the current ruler of the Empire of Zillbien.
Personality and Behavior
Drodom is mostly focused on the cultural values and developments of his people. He is likely to choose diplomatic resolutions over conquest against other nations.
Drodom is exceptionally friendly and loyal, and will readily befriend anyone but the most warlike leaders. He is more willing to denounce than to wage war himself, but will maintain a defensive militia comprised of a variety of units. He’s also interested in building a fairly large navy.
Fittingly, Drodom's highest priority is the happiness of his people, followed by the development of his lands and his people’s culture. He is not interested in claiming a large territory, but his cities are highly populated and the land and water around them are full of improvements. He has shown some interest in building world wonders that enhance his people’s culture and has entertained the concept of tourism.
Drodom is friendly toward city-states in his sphere of influence and will often pledge to protect them. He will hardly ever attack or bully them.
History
Drodom II brought stability and progress to his homeland, as well as making it a preeminent power in Kai. A calm and serious man, Drodom II zealously guards his nation's sovereignty, challenging the mighty [TBD] Empire and fledgling [TBD] when those nations sought to meddle in the region. He led the Zillbien in gaining new territory and prestige, while continuing to focus his attention primarily upon making Zillbien a modern state. He encourages coffee production rather than sugar, and actively supports and sponsors road, transport, and communication infrastructure.
Although popular with his people, there are rumors of Dragonborn clans within his borders plotting to overthrow him. Namely, certain military leaders who are increasingly vocal about wanting to form a republic headed by a dictator. In response to this gossip, he simply expressed his "ardent wishes for the greatness and prosperity of Zillbien."
Youth
Born in Rijan to Drodom I and his wife Mar Podia, Drodom was raised and classically educated by a succession of governesses and guardians. With a grueling regime of daily studies, great care was taken to foster ethical values and a personality quite different from the impulsive and irresponsible character of his father. Being the only male child of Drodom I to survive infancy, he was acclaimed Emperor Drodom II of Zillbien on the day of his father's abdication, although he did not assume his throne until he came of age at 14.
Reign
So far during his reign, Drodom II has presided over 36 different cabinets, most of which have broad public support. Either directly or through his government, Drodom sponsors the construction of Zillbien's major roads, among other infrastructure.
Secure in his people's affections, Drodom indulges his lifelong desires to travel. Distracted by these long absences, Drodom finds himself increasingly removed from those segments of Zillbien society that he has fostered, namely the emerging urban middle class and a new generation of liberal-minded students. Additionally, is rapidly losing the unwavering support of the clergy, the upper classes, and the military. However, he is still beloved by the commoners.
Public Opinion & Legacy
Inheriting an empire on the brink of disintegration, Drodom turned Zillbien into an emerging power in a changing world. The nation has come to be distinguished from its neighbors due to its political stability, freedom of speech, respect for civil rights, vibrant economy and rich culture. A savant in his own right, Drodom II is a vigorous sponsor of education, the arts and the sciences in Zillbien. He is honored by many Zillbienians as a hero, as a national symbol, as the "Father of the People" personified.
