High Archivist
Born from the endless pursuit of knowledge, a high archivist is the embodiment of that idea.
In charge of an archive within a library, a high archivist travels the world, collecting new knowledge from all kinds of different areas. Most high archivists look just like normal travelers or merchants, trying to go unnoticed and not attract too much attention.
Responsibilities
The high archivist is in charge of collecting knowledge on all kinds of subjects, from scientific or magical knowledge to historic events and folktales. This knowledge is shared between the high archivist and their teller, who transmits that information the the archivists who will record it.
Qualifications
Before a new high archivist can be appointed, an archivist has to be deemed suitable for the job by an already established high archivist. When a high archivist things one of the archivists that are in their care is suitable, they will undergo a learning period together. Within the learning period the high archivist will teach how to make and bond a teller and the archivist will be required to have mastered that bond by the end of the learning period. This period has a length of minimal two years and maximal five. If after five years the high archivist does not deem the archivist suitable for a promotion, the archivist will go back to the archive without being appointed high archivist.
Appointment
Archivists who are deemed suitable will perform a demonstration of their teller and their skills in front of all archives that converge in that library, if they succeed, they will be appointed high archivist by the head of that library. During the appointment ceremony their own archive is assembled from various archivists and junior scribes, given to the new high archivist by the other high archivists. The new high archivist will set out immediately afterwards, looking for their own knowledge
Lenght of therm
The general lenght of therm for a high archivist is fifteen years. After twenty years the high archivist has the option to prolong their service in increments of five years at the time.

Bards and storytellers
Even though most high archivist try to not attract much attention, there are also some that seek out that attention. These high archivists tend to go around being a bard or a storyteller, performing their knowledge and stories to crowds on streetcorners, in taverns and during festivals.

This is such a great idea. I love 'his erudite' as a form of address. :D I think being a High Archivist would be a fascinating career.

Thanks for the comment! I think so too and there will definitely be some high archivists that my players will meet, that won't fit the standard scholar or standard adventurer type :)
