Feared by the inhabitants of Rasvich, the Rasvich Central Prison is one of the most well known buildings within Rasvich. Citizens also call it the Prison of Screams as screams can be heared throughout the hallways that lead towards the building. Citizens avoid the paths leading that way as much as possible for fear of going mad themselves.

Purpose

As the name suggests, the Rasvich Central Prison holds prisoners from Rasvich. This includes both people who are taken into custody whilst they wait for trial, as well as long term prisoners when they aren't sentenced for exile. Sentences differ between long and short prison stays, sometimes with manual labor involved.

Architecture

Both iron doors are lined with thick dark red bands to indicate association with clan Grimmail. All lights, both to the prison as well as in the interior are also shine red. The prison itself is very plain, no decoration or inscriptions except for the consistent appearance of dark red bands. After entering through the second set of iron doors, there is a general area where prisoners are recorded, checked and tattooed, before moving downwards to the appropriate cell. The upper levels hold both holding cells and short term sentences while lower levels hold prisoners with longer sentences. Each prison cell holds a simple bed, a toilet and a tap with fresh water. Since everything is underground there are no windows. Cell doors have a slit at the bottom that a tray with simple food can be passed to the prisoners.

Location

The Rasvich Central prison is located in the south-western part of Rasvich, deep within the mountains. The only road leading to the prison is a heavily guarded by a watch post and a thick iron door blocking the entrance. The road itself is narrow and short with barely enough space for two dwarves to walk side by side, it winds downwards, snaking through the mountain until the air becomes colder and it arrives at another heavily guarded iron door.

While it is true that within the prison, the road leading to it and from the outside gate, screams can be heard. Those are not actually screams of prisoners. They are just a way of scaring both the inmates as well as the general public to behave. The screams are magically made auditory hallucinations. Guards who work in the prison wear special magical gear to prevent them from hearing the screams.
