Sand Madness
Sand madness is a condition caused by the bite of sandflies, which live in the Akazi desert. While most people only get mild symptomes like red and itchy skin from a sandfly bite, one in ten female sandflies carries a venom that will induse Sand Madness.
Symptomes
After being bitten it takes about three day before sand madness sets in. During this day, the bite itches as a usual sandfly bite would, but there will be a distinct red ring surrounding the bite, instead of the normal red patch. The disease will start with stage one and, without treatment, will progress a stage after about two to three days. When someone enters stage three, it will take about three to four days before they will die.

Treatment
There is currently no known treatment to cure sand madness. The only way for someone to survive is to live long enough for their own body to fight off the disease. Treating the different symptomes of sand madness helps in the management of the disease and keeping the person alive. The most important thing is to make sure the person gets enough nutrients and water after stage one to prevent dehydration and give their body enough energy to fight off the disease. Once someone survives sand madness, it is believed they are immune for the disease.

The Taiyo Tribe, who live as nomads in the Akazi desert, are very well aquinted with sand madness as it is very common for them to get the disease when they are young. This knowledge about the disease has resulted in various experiments with the hallucination effects the disease gives in the first stage. They found out that crushed sandflies will give a thick, viscous, substance that, when sucked on, has similar hallucinogenic effects. The substance can be dried for easier storage and be rewetted before use, which can be done with saliva. Members of the Taiyo tribe have been known to sell dried Madness, as they have called it, to The Order.
If someone sucks on Madness for too long, they will get the same effects as stage one of sand madness. These symptomes can be remedied by removing the Madness from there mouth, giving them enough water and letting them rest.
