The Chronicle of The Sovereign of the Bog
General Summary
Following the skirmish with the bullywug patrol and the escape of the Shaman, the party captured one of the strange creatures and attempted to question it. Through the use of wildshape and telepathic whispers, the party convinced it that Finden was the god Ramenos, the bullywug God of sleep and rest, incarnate. They then sent the frog man to spread the word of their divine presence to his village.
Following the river, the party eventually found a small shanty village floating on a group of wooden platforms. Utilizing the cover of night, the party snuck into the center of the village; Finden then shifted into her interpretation of the God Ramenos, and with the help of Corvus, successfully convinced the villagers that their god was walking amongst them.
Meanwhile, Verus went ahead to scout the land further down the river, whereupon he found a small fortress with a number of bullywug guards and attendants. He returned and relayed this information to the rest of the party.
Finden then jumped into the river with Corvus' dancing lights following close behind, and an entire village of frogmen followed suit.
Upon arrival at the fortress, Corvus, Verus, and Finden- still in the form of Ramenos, made their way through the open front gate. Shadowing the trio was Djordin and Rekenov, who scaled the rear walls of the fortress and situated themselves in a position for ambush.
After beguiling the small number of bullywug peasants present, the same wizard who had escaped your grasp in the encounter at the river vanished inside the one solid building within the surrounding palisades.
What emerged was a hideous, staff wielding female bullywug, who immediately sought the eyes of the disguised Finden.
As the door opened a second time, the peasant bullywugs-hysteric after seeing one of their deities walking amongst them... fell silent. Their attention fell to the figure standing in the door of the small construct: their liege, Emperor Therefen Leoxidor Magnate, The Just, The Opulent, The Magnificent, and Ruler of all lands which mortal eyes cast their gaze upon.
He addressed you as heathens and pretenders, and decried the fowl trick that brought you into his presence. He claimed that his recent raids on guild caravans were merely the lawful extraction of tax from his rightfully possessed lands, and refused every idea of compromise short of 100,000 gold and a token of submission from the Illithed Triumvirate.
Sensing that this figure was not acting in good faith, Verus signaled to the hidden pair of Rekenov and Djordin. What followed was an explosion of action- guided by Djordin's blessing, Rekenov launched a javelin directly at the Royal Frogman and caught him by surprise. The hideous female frog took this opportunity to reveal her true form, that of a monstrous and ghastly sea hag.
The sight of this grisly being hampered the judgement of both Corvus and Verus, who were then immediately ensnared by a mass of thorns summoned by The Emperors court wizard. Rekenov, with his blade blessed by Djordin, quickly dispatched two guards who had surrounded the pair. This victory was short lived however, as Rekenov soon found himself hopelessly surrounded by the The Emperor's most deadly enforcer, and The Sovereign of the Bog himself.
The sea hag took this opportunity to cast its nightmarish glare into the heart of the wizard Corvus, who already put on defense by a valorous member of The Emperor's royal guard, was unable to withstand the sea hags' deathly gape. The lone wizard fell to the ground, his body still.
Seeing their ally fall, both Djordin and Finden rushed to the aid of the young wizard and brought him back into the throngs of the battle; just in time for him to witness the wrath of The Emperor descend on his red-skinned comrade.
After shaking the fear that the sea hag had cast upon him, Verus the Barbarian brought a swift end to one of the royal guards and descended into the melee that had now encompassed 3 of his 4 compatriots. As he closed the gap, Rekenov's defenses could withstand the strength of The Emperor no longer, and the Hobgoblin fell motionless to the ground.
Wishing to finalize his punishment of the band of interlopers that had entered his home, Emperor Therefen Leoxidor Magnate,The Just, The Opulent, The Magnificent, and Ruler of all lands in which mortal eyes cast their gaze upon... summoned more of his subjects into the battlefield. He then brought down his thunderous Morningstar on the still body of The Hunter of Kravak, and caved in the body of the all-but-defeated gladiator.
However, the murderous will of Emperor magnate was denied, and denied again by the will of Djordin the Cleric and Finden the Druid. While staving off blows from all sides, the two women called upon the deepest extent of their powers, and saw that their ally would rise, and rise again.
Enraged by their impudence, King Tharfen rained blows down on the defiant hobgoblin- whose mangled body was only kept alive by the power of his allies. So focused on the messianic display before him, the enraged frog hadn't noticed the metamorphosis undergone by Corvus the Warlock.
Once again tempted by promises from eldritch whispers, Corvus allowed the enigmatic being, Cyäegtha, to manifest in his body. Granted otherworldly power by the entity, Corvus would unleash his newfound might at the the surrounding enemies. Combined with the Sea Hag meeting its end at the end of Verus' axe, and Rekenov using his nigh destroyed body to make a fatal thrust into the body of the emperor's enforcer, Therafen saw that the battle had turned against him. His retreat was sealed by the quick swipe of a druid's claw, and the dethroned king fled into his bunker in the depths of the island.
With their enemies either dead or fled, the Slayers of Immish began to examine their wounds and plan their next move; with the exception of Corvus the wizard. Still possessed by the mysterious Cyäegtha, Corvus made his way through the 'castle' and into the depths of the cave below.
With the room filled with darkness, Corvus met face to face with his single remaining foe. Speaking in a manic whisper, the creature uttered its final words... "I am Emperor Therefen Leoxidor Magnate, The Just, The Opulent, The Magnificent, and Ruler of all lands in which mortal eyes cast their gaze upon... and you, will not, take my kingdom from me.
Taking in a vast breath, the creature used all of its might to blow a single stream of wind into a small ceramic horn, out of which erupted an earthshattering roar.
Corvus' awoke to find himself in control of his body once again, but throne against the walls of the cavern, and wounded near the point of death.
Deafened by the sound of the blast, the Wizard never heard his friends rushing into the cavern; nor did he see them stare into the eyes into the creature that had caused so much pain in that short time. He did, however, see the creature breath in another gasp of air: and fearing the result- vainly shot a piercing bolt of energy in the direction of his enemy's heart.
This bolt would not find its target. Emperor Tharefen Lexidor Magnate's lips would find the spout of the horn again, though this time, fate did grant him its smile. The Horn combusted into a searing inferno, and nothing but charred remains were left behind.
Now truly victorious, the Slayer's of Immish could add "Kingslayers" to their list of titles, and set about investigating their surroundings and recovering from the brutal battle.
