After the dwarves of Niðavellir learned to use runes to manipulate magic, they discovered that runes carved on different materials yield varying outcomes. The most powerful effects have been created using iron, and because of this, they decided to build weapons and machines only using this metal, in order to reach higher mastery over the magical energy wielded by gods, giants, and elves, who have posed significant threats to the realm of Niðavellir. But then, an opportunity has been posed to them. For decades, dwarven scientists, theoreticians, and even the royal engineer and architect of the dwarf king have posited that iron smelted with the bones of giants and other mythical beings would allow complete mastery over runic magic. The dwarves did not dare to travel into the land of the giants, but one day, a young giant named Sondre stumbled into their realm. Sondre was sent to slay the dwarf king, but quite easily it has been defeated by a group of dwarven warriors. The bones of the giant have been quickly taken and stored in the repository of the royal engineer. This new metal was named "Elder Steel" for its ability to channel primal magic that predates the gods. The first weapon created using this metal was the Arcane Crossbow, a magical crossbow that fires magical bolts that create magical effects when they hit. This crossbow was a prototype to more advanced arcane firearms: the Simulacra Wand, the Simulacra Gauntlet, and the most powerful, the Simulacra Core, a technological orb that powers all dwarven technology. Three elder steel weapons were not created for the purpose of channeling or generating magic, these are named "Three Elder Blades" and consist of a spear that can slay any creature, a rapier that can block any attack, and an axe that allows its wielder to fly. Elder steel was not only used for building weapons. Many automatons, machines, and infrastructure devices utilized runes and for that reason some of them were built using elder steel. But the most important use of elder steel was a calculation machine that helped the royal engineer enhance the efficiency of his work and even was able to invent devices and posit theories by itself.
List of elder steel made weapons and items: Weaponry: Axe of Flight, Rapier of mastery, Spear of the Doom bringer Magical Conduits: Arcane Crossbow (Codename: Gen I Conduit) , Simulacra Wand (Codename: Gen II Conduit for base version and Gen III Conduit for later versions), Simulacra Gauntlet (Codename: Gen IV Conduit), Simulacra Core

Magic Conduits Description: Arcane Crossbow: An elder steel crossbow that uses magical bolts instead of regular bolts. The bolts create the effect of a spell when they hit. If an elder steel bolt is used, the bolt creates a gate to another world when it hits. Simulacra Wand: An elder steel wand that can be used to channel magic even if the user is not born with magical power. Simulacra Gauntlet: An improved Simulacra Wand. Is worn as a gauntlet instead of wielded as a wand. Can create more powerful magical effects and manipulate spells cast by others. Simulacra Core: An elder steel orb used to generate and manipulate arcane magic. Built by the royal engineer to manipulate the energies of Yggdrasil itself, although was temporarily dismantled because of cost issues.
