Poppy Haays is the newest member of the well respected and oldest of these very competitive organizations; the Exoplanet Conservation and Settlement Agency (ECASA). ECASA sends "proofing teams", a mix of experienced and the newest team members on a basic "recon" mission. These are called Alpha teams.
Poppy was always driven, and ambitious. While she is smart, schooling was torturous for her and she only JUST made it. She has taken innumerable hands-on classes, workshops, and most importantly to her, hands-on job training. She apprenticed under Mia Janiacola, a renowned xeno-explorer and the first to have explored Tifton 12, the first exoplanet humans came to.
What is expected to be an exciting two month first excursion for Alpha team into a temperate rainforest to document the environment and biology, turns into a deadly game of cat and mouse after Poppy’s team discovers remnants of a prior civilization and members of the Alpha team go missing.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Poppy is tall and althetically built. She isn't thin purse, but she definitely leans that way.
Body Features
She has brilliant coppery bronze red hair. In its natural habitat it tends to run a curly riot, so Poppy paid out several years ago to have her hair gene structure atlered to be straight, or slightly curly at worst.
Poppy has 6 fingers on her left, non-dominant hand. Her parents were a bit archaic (see hair) and left it to Poppy, as it was actually functional, against all odds of such things. Poppy keeps it for the same reason, and that it also gives her a flair of the exotic.
Poppy also has several regular and nano-ink-tatoos.
Facial Features
Poppy's face is slightly rounded, clear, fair skin with a hint of freckles. She has blue eyes, courtesy of the same inheritance of red hair and fair skin
Identifying Characteristics
He har is her most identifying feature, followed by her 6th finger and one of her tattoos that wraps up around her upper back, shoulders, chest and neck

Special abilities
Poppy has several hidden abilities, ones she won't disclose for fear of her "amazing" finds being relegated to her abilities work, and not her own like the two are separate anyway!
She can find her direction on any planet with a magnetic field, and she is a high-level empath*
She has: Magnetoception.
Magnetoception (or magnetoreception) is the ability to detect the direction one is facing based on the Earth's magnetic field.
Directional awareness is most commonly observed in birds, which rely on their magnetic sense to navigate during migration.
It has also been observed in insects such as bees. Cattle make use of magnetoception to align themselves in a north-south direction.[20]

Can sense A telluric current (from Latin tellūs, "earth"), or Earth current,[1] is an electric current which moves underground or through the sea. Telluric currents result from both natural causes and human activity, and the discrete currents interact in a complex pattern. The currents are extremely low frequency and travel over large areas at or near the surface of the Earth.

Poppy wears whatever is most apporpriate for the area-sturdy work booth, XX hide pants, vest, tank top, wide brim hat when out exploring, business attire when making her annual plea for grants, sexy wear for when she wants to go out

Personal history
Poppy was born on XXXX to Archaic parents. As such she was educated at home until the mandatory age of 12, when she, like all Federation kids must attend University.
However, it was during these 12 years that her parents, especially her mother taught he how to shield her empathy and how to use it. Poppy could fully shield herself by age 8 against even her father, a level 4 telepath, and her mother a level 8 empath, who DIDN't take it easy on her. He mom knew what awaited her daughter at University, and she needs Poppy to understand as well.
Poppy was loved, and felt loved. She had friends, mostly boys/males and was the leader of her little cadre by age 6. She was fearless to them. In reality, with her directional sense, (another hidden secret) and her empathy, Poppy was usually able to tell if there where Mhirr beasts or other dangers close, and could always find their way home. She often got her little group lost on purpose after a lecture from her father about appearing "normal" as possible. And empathy did little to warn her of non living hazards, or living but small hazards
Poppy went to University with the rest of her age group. All children in the same region went to the same University, so she did have friends there. However, it was learning to live is an all girls/female communal structure that she had the most difficulty with. Her counselors at U thought she was just having trouble adjusting like most kids, but in reality she was having trouble sheilding
Sheilding is a skill, and one she knew well, but in throwing a bunch of females together that are at or near menarche did weird things to her shielding. Her mom had tried to prepare her, but without all that surging of hormones it was a theoretical experience only.
Add to that, she felt at least 3 others like her, or her father. That was interesting. There weren't supposed to be any, and she had long thought herself an anomaly, and was quite proud of the fact. To sense others was both disconcerting and thrilling.
She set out to make friends of these three. ( need story here, did she do it?)

Education
Poppy was homeschooled until 12 like all XXXX children. At university she struggled academically--she didn't like sitting still for sooooo long!
She did however LOVE all the biology and physical sciences and excelled at those
She declined to continue on to XXXX school. It wast mostly writing, and while she didn't mind writing, that's all it was. So she opted to take an intern ship with the xeno-expplorere SirXXXX and has never been happier.
Employment
She works for herself as a xeno-explorer, with grants from various governments, research centers and higher learning establishments.
After her internship she stayed on with Sir XXX for 4 years, learning and honing her skills and love of exploration. When the Future NASA opened up slots for well qualified xeno explorers she jumped at the chance. she had to fight for her right though, as a small woman she was initially not thought tough enough, but she passed all the physical and mental challenges and the hazing from the men, and some women who thought she was too young, small, and despite her work with Sir XXX, not really qualified.

Mental Trauma
He biggest "trauma" has centered around being born to Archaists. People who shun the body mod tech like gene fixing, nano ink tattoos (add several other things here.
And because her parents are Achaists, she was never tested at birth for the NG3301 gene for elevated mental capacity--telepathy, empathlesled the First Respondersdy etc. While such traits are not forbidden, the people who test high at birth are taken to special nurseries for 3 years, all the while being tested and developed. only when a child has "failed out" can they return home. This had happened to both her parents and was the reason they were Archivits, they did want any of their kids to have to go through that. So at birth (at home) Poppy's mom had the cord blood of another child, via a midwife, available to give to the first responders .
She explained that she went into labor and it progressed quicker than normal, and she wound up giving birth at home. She of course had asked her husband to call the FR as soon as she figured out they would never make it to the Center before delivery.
It was a standard ploy and the Center and FR were aware that many Gifted parents wanted to hide any potentially gifted kids, so they checked A, B, C etc to combat this
miranda, poppy's mom knew this (was she a former FR?) and had put into place X, Y, & Z , and had a midwife she trusted and "helped" keep quiet about the preparations--this needs all to be fleshed out
poppy was made aware at a very young age who she could talk to; mom and dad only--and the consequences.
Since poppy chafed horribly at any form of physical restriction, one episode of having to sit in a corner, alone, silent, under the tortuous name of Time out, was enough to convince her 3-year-old mind that this was a fate worse than death, so Poppy avoided talking about her abilities to anyone. That feeling might have been helped a bit by both mom and dads abilites
Intellectual Characteristics
poppy is smart, she diesnt test well. she rushes through tests at u. She learned to be more precise and careful under Sir XXX who told her she was out if she couldn't even write a field report worth a mouse turd. Poppy didn't know what a mouse was, but being kicked of Sir X's team was worse than any turd fest, so she learned.
Taboos
She will not kill creatures not actively trying to kill her or a close-by team member, and will ardently oppose any who even talk about it
Personality Characteristics
Motivation
She wants to be the next Ti'anne Subberry, Evvan Paranjenko, or even as far back as Attenborough and all those really, really old Earth explorers who got lost and actually had to die of disease. Being an Ancient must have sucked badly.
She wants to not rely on her Family to make anything easy, So she changed her Family name to one of the Orphan Names, the names for people not born or adopted into a Family: Hayys. By doing so she was able to earn her way into being the best.
She really dreams of finding the "one" thing no one else has ever seen or discovered AND that is changing world. And hey, being rich wouldn't just during funding dry spells
