Shamali (Sham-all-ee)
The people of the Northern Continent live in relative wealth compared to the rest of the world. In the ancient Khufuan tongue, these people were called "Zamali Jubon" or "Northern Cowards", due to their fleeing of the wars of Khufu. They get the ire of the rest of the world because of their prosperity and fame, but there are many who hold the fleeing of their ancestors against them. The current peoples of the world call them "Shamali", a term that means "One from the North" in the Khufuan tongue. The Shamali take pride in the name given them, since they know the Northern Continent is not without its hardships. However, the name has evolved into a slang, derogatory term that usually is placed on someone who takes advantage of others.
The name "Rijal" (Ree-jall) or "People of Maps" was originally given to the Vikings of the Nordic Clan when they first met the people of Rel'kia during their exploration of the world. In their haphazard communication with the cultures of the Broken Isles and Rel'kia, they managed to instill a sense of trust and respect. However, this was quickly betrayed as the other people of the Vahlic Clans filtered down.
After the Odr Clan raided villages from the Broken Isles to Rel'kia, the people of the Realm of Khufu began calling them "Almajanin min Alshamali" (Al-ma-zha-nin min al-shamal-ee) or "Madmen of the North".
This attitude of fear was adapted slightly as the Imperial Dominion of Span'ce visited the Al-Zha'ad Alliance and brought gifts of peace. These gifts turned into a business transaction very quickly, and the people of the Al-Zha'ad Alliance were cheated out of many technological wonders. convincing
It was the course of these events that allowed the term "Shamali" to hold such distain, and while not universal, many people living outside the Northern Continent truly believe that the world would be a better place with less "Shamali" in it.
