Dragonsong Flute

After the fall of the last known dragon, Halixethra the Enduring, from her bones was made a suite of beautiful musical instruments, as she willed it in her last days: a flute, a harp and a lute. As they were not crafted on Kalidon, but on one of the other continents, the harp and the lute were lost. However, one of the surviving Dragonblessed brought the flute to the continent, where it rested in the conservatory of Narah for a while, located in the southern Nine. It was stolen, however, shortly before the onset of the Grey Winter and the thief's trail was cold afterwards.   As recorded by the conservatory, the flute had the following properties:
  • it chose its musician, not the other way around. Much like dragons chose their servants and companions in the past, this flute can be picked up and played by few people and sometime not those you would expect.
  • when it is played, its sound is simultaneously ethereal and deep as the bones of the mountains. it can be whisper soft, if the bearer intends, or sound over large distances.
  • it has limited capacity to magically sway anyone in hearing range, enchanting them and inducing daydreams of flying through a sunset sky, the world a tapestry of life below
These are the known capabilities of the flute. However, more importantly dragons have in the past battled the Shaedes by the side of the Paragons and they have a natural resilience to them, can even harm them. The flute can hold of Shaedes when they attack and in the hands of a powerful Bard do more than that. It is, through the dragon bone body, connected to the Realm Arcane and can be used by a level 8+ bard as a spellcasting focus, which gives them a +1 to their spell attacks and saves. In addition, the song of dragons can inspire allies and put fear into enemies. Once a day, it can be played so that every ally in hearing range for up to 3 rounds (depending on charges) is blessed, while bane is cast on enemies in the same range.
