Session 1 Report
General Summary
In a small town-turned-military outpost near the border of Partem, a group of young travellers came together. Whether it was fate or merely coincidence, these adventurers were pushed together in order help a family in need.
A dwarven man by name of Baern Ironfist, a low-ranking member of the Partri military, came to the Limping Braggart to enjoy a drink. A noble lady named Mithiope of the House Valmine held rooms there. A wandering flute player named Galileo the Dude had chosen the Braggart's alley as his mattress for that evening. A goliath ranger named Paavu 'Lonehunter' Thuliaga had decided to sate his awful hunger by emptying the Braggart's larder. Lastly, a young and unassuming barmaid named Theodora Thorne was in Reirdri's employ, doing her best to cater to the goliath's out-sized appetites.
A man named Safiko, from distant Sayret, approached Lady Valmine with a unique offer. He had a tome on an infernal topic that he somehow knew she would be interested in. A deal was struck, knowledge for knowledge, but Mithiope was not prepared for the secrets that the Librarian-Errant unraveled.
The weepings of a distraught couple caught the attention of the heroes, and they were introduced to Baathu and Aalsay, two Terrhevkan immigrants whose son had gone missing. Sympathetic to their plight, the mutual interests of the heroes made the next course of action clear.
They decided to make certain that the Odelander bard Darwayet was not abusing his young apprentice Rufelan. Once it was made clear that the bard's stern words were just that, words, the group planned to set out the following morning.
The first quest conducted by the unlikely band of heroes in Whitebrook was to seek out the fate of a young Terrhevkan man named Khaanay. In seeking the boy out, they tracked his location to a secluded hill in the Partema Foothills, which had been partially crystallized. Unbeknownst to them, a Partri sergeant named Xarak and his reluctant associate Theodora Thorne were tracking them as well.
Upon entering the hill through a crevice at its base, the party delved deeper into the cavern and were able to uncover a temple to what appeared to be dragons. They faced several kobold worshippers in battle, before pressing on to find the lair of a young crystal dragon, who engaged them in combat.
This combat was taking place while Xarak and Theodora explored the other set of tunnels, which led to a bedroom equipped with various erotic accoutrements, and a hidden doorway behind a painting leading to a massive cathedral occupied by draconic cultists. Xarak left immediately to gather a force of soldiers to face the threat, leaving Theodora to explore the rest of the cave system. She explored and ran suddenly into the rest of the party, where impromptu introductions were interrupted by the roar of the dragon.
Although the fight was fierce, investigating the balcony overlooking the cathedral as well as its plinth upon which rested Khaanay led to an ingenious solution. Mithiope used the threat of scorching the boy to cause the dragon to back down. A shaky stalemate was reached, but Khaanay it was discovered, was not yet safe.
The party had interrupted a ritual, the dragon explained, which Khaanay had willingly consented to undergo which if successful would turn him into a dragon. Only by allowing the dragon to attend to Khaanay, was he able to be revived. The party was unprepared for the anger that their involvement elicited, and Khaanay retreated to the bedchamber he shared with his draconic lover.
At a loss, the party made their way out of the dragon's lair, warded off the attention's of Xarak and his soldiers, and made for Whitebrook. Their next move, having found Khaanay safe and seemingly sound, would have to involve explaining his whereabouts to his parents.
