The Battle of Lyath'Or

The Battle of Lyath'Or was a surprise attack waged on the Fallen City of Lyath'Or. Consisting of Gir'An raiders and mercenaries from Ibrim the battle was brief, barely lasting three hours, but shook the city to its core.   The battle was instigated by the now infamous "Half-Orc Warlock" and his followers upon the city, and its true aims are unknown.

The Conflict

Prelude

Lyath'Or pickets and scouts reported mysterious airships on the horizon near the city, but the city guard thought little of it since such airships could not be much of a threat.

Deployment

The first airships of the mercenary band were in fact a distraction, and pummeled into the cities above-ground areas while filled with explosions. The sudden suicide attack caused chaos as Norsemen raiders attacked from side gates and non-suicide airships flew into the city and through the large gateways to the subterranean parts of the city. The Black Guard and City Guard were hard-pressed to mobilize quickly.

Battlefield

Fighting was fiercest nearest to the Palace of Xune, but fighting took place throughout the city in pockets.

The Engagement

After the initial surprise the Half-Orc Warlock led his strongest troops directly into the Palace of Xune for purposes unknown, though presumably to kill Xune. Fighting was fiercest around the Palace, and chaos was rampant. The attackers momentum was quickly lost though, as the Black Guard finally fully mobilized and rallied around Xune and Hirin Fadaones, who managed to escape the palace. Once the Black Guard took to systematically clearing the city block by block the invaders quickly retreated or were ruthlessly destroyed.

Outcome

The attack, though short lived, was a shock to the Drow. Lyath'Or had not been attacked since it was founded in the First Era, and the event shook the city to its core, not even including the actual damage the city faced. Xune soon departed the city and headed west with a few hundred of her Black Guard following closely behind to partake in The Battle of the Frozen Temple that would follow shortly after.

Aftermath

While damage was notable and the mental damage was surprising the Drow are first and foremost survivors, and within months most of the damage had been repaired and the dead buried. Though the city is now on higher alert following the attack.
