The Nature of Dragons

Dragons are some of the oldest, wisest, and most dangerous creatures in Kalin.   While legends say that Dragons were once a common sight in Kalin, those days are long gone. Now, with the exception of the Green Dragons, most Dragons are reclusive and live in hidden locations either solitarily or in small groups.   The exact nature and classification of Dragons is a hotly debated academic question. The most accepted theory is that the colored dragons, sometimes called elemental or chromatic dragons, are more connected to the world and its elements (with Reds corresponding to fire, Blues to Storms and Water, etc).   Meanwhile the metallic dragons seem to be more connected to the divine and magic in someway, though the exact nature of this connection is unknown. It seems that even during the heyday of the Dragons metallic dragons were much more rare a sight than the chromatic dragons.   It's also accepted that the White Dragons were chief amongst the Chromatic dragons, while Golds were chief amongst the metallic, though due to the number disparity between the Chromatic and Metallic Dragons the Whites were the de-facto rulers of all dragons if not officially.   A lot of this information is guess work. While the ancient Elves of the Torva'Ir held the Dragons in high esteem and often worked with them much of their knowledge was lost after the Fall of the Torva, and much of the good will was lost way before that during The Dragon War.
