Evelynn Verta

(a.k.a. Lynn)

Born and raised in the foothill farming community of Farnfoss (Donassi Territory).
At age 8, her father is conscripted into the military. Her mother is pregnant and Lynn is 9 by the time he is born. Baby Steven is sickly and soon dies of illness. Distraught, her mother sends Lynn away and becomes lost in a blizzard. She dies in the hospital soon after.
Lynn is now stuck living with her paternal Aunt and Uncle in a mixed religious town (Swanmouth), until her father comes home from the war. To stave off boredom her older cousin Malack teachers her to pick pockets from travelers. His best friend Declan, a drifter with a knack for spying, would often join them on more complex thefts.
Just after her 12th birthday she finds out her father died in the war. She wants her family farmstead back but according to the Donassi customs she can't have until she is married and her uncle was now in control of it. He rents it out and Lynn doesn't see a cobb.
When she is 18 she has a night of passion with Declan, but he refuses her attempts to make it into anything more. So she moves to the imperial city of Iridian, under the guise of looking for suitable marriage suitor. Her real goal was to earn enough money to buy the family farmstead from her uncle.
She arrives a few days before her 19th birthday. She opens a gift from her Aunt, set aside by her mother - her locket. It is lost the day she moves in. Her plans of working as a factory clerk doesn't work out and she finds herself on the street. She resorts to her thieving skills to survive and catches the attention of magic merchant named Augustus Darkan. He convinces her to steal a few things for him in exchange for a place to stay and money as well. She spends almost a year working for him stealing items of high value, amassing enough wealth to buy the farmstead from her uncle Pater. However, her letters to Malack have convinced her that he won't accept her money until it comes with a letter from a lawyer. She finds one in the Capital city, Carran, who might help her but the cost is high.
When Lynn finally feels she has enough money tucked aside she decides to quit working for Darkan. But it doesn't go as planned. Instead he shows her the necklace she thought she lost when she arrived in town, and he will only give it back to her if she completes one last job for him.
