The Prymese - Aguraian War

In 1769 CE (11 years ago), fueled mostly by misinformation from Iridan/ The Empire, a border dispute turned to war between Pryma and Aguara. The war lasted for 8 years until 1777, when Belalto (having suffered great economic losses due to the war) stepped in to facilitate new land agreements. Belalto has finally organized a submit to be held at the winter solstice in the current year 1780, in the Belalto town of Stretto on the edge of the disputed territory. All interested parties have been invited including the Empire (Iridan).

The original borders of Pryma, Belalto, and Aguara met the base of the Mordendi mountains. The disputed area now stretches north and south into Aguara and Pryma territory, leaving Belalto no longer sharing a border with Pryma in the south.

The Conflict

Prelude

EMPIRE - The prince of Iridian has fallen out of favor with his father, the Emperor. The prince has a great intelligence network and worked to set in motion a long term plan to cause a border dispute on the southern end of Aguara and have the extra land taken from Pryma and given to the Empire by encouraging all parties that an imperial buffer between the two countries would be best. The prince wants to secure a larger piece of land for the empire on this continent, not only to impress the Emperor but because relying on Aguara for everything has become costly and puts the Empire at a disadvantage in this region.

PRYMA - The Prymese have been at war with the Empire multiple times as the Empire homeland is just beyond the easternmost islands in the Prymese commonwealth. They have a long history of mistrust of the Empire and have never done trade with the Empire. When the Empire made a deal with Aguara 100 years ago for Iridan bay and to establish a city there, Pryma called out in warning. But they were ignored. However, over the years they have established trade with Iridan city who has proved to be a much more peaceful offshoot of the Empire. There were many who didn’t trust it of course, but they welcomed the trade opportunities.

BELALTO - Before the war, the largest trading hub was in the southern Belalto city of Stretto. Aguara, Pryma, and Belalto traded in this city because of its location on the border of all three kingdoms. However, because the war, Stretto was cut off from trading with either country and Belalto suffered.

Deployment

PRYMA - When Iridian contacts told Pryma that Aguara was looking to expand into Prymese territory, they didn’t think it was a ploy. They mobilized to defend their territory which was seen as an act of aggression by Aguara.

AGUARA - Run by an old suspicious man, he was easily convinced that the Prymese thought him weak and were trying to take his southern lands. He declared war quickly, and forced conscription into the military that same year (1769). He called on Iridian as well, since aiding in times of War was part of their agreement for allowing the Empire control over Iridian bay. Over the years of war, the prowess of the Iridian army was not missed. Securing better terms and control over the arrangement with Iridian is often discussed but the King seems unable to commit to anything concerning the Empire when he perceives the Prymese threat as more important. His senate is concerned, but since the heir to the throne is only a child they are unable to do more than mitigate the situation.

PRYMA - After 7 years of battle, with neither side backing down, a handful of prisoners of war were recovered from Iridian military encampments with no memories. Pryma then realized that something else was going on and they may need help if the war continued. They reached out to Belalto for aid.

Outcome

BELALTO - to end the war quickly, they threatened to stop all trade with Aguara, Pryma, and the Empire if they didn’t call a cease-fire. All parties agreed to leave the disputed territory, effectively abandon the towns and people who lived within them. For two years, Belalto has been unable to get the King of Aguara and the Prime Minister of Pryma to agree to terms. Border skirmishes on the edges of the disputed territory have been on going whenever tensions boil over. Two years of negotiations finally lead to a summit that all leaders would attend, and that wouldn’t end until the border dispute was resolved.

EMPIRE - Since the cease-fire, the Iridian Prince has stationed several military outposts within the disputed zone in secret.
