General Ruger Pietman
Be it known to all the People of Skillia, our Beloved General Ruger Pietman was killed in the Battle of Hollin that took place on the 3rd of October of this year. Lieutenant Eliom, an eye-witness, informed us that the general had been defending one of his wounded men from the enemy, until he himself was shot with arrows three times and run through with a sword twice.
General Pietman’s early life was an extremely humble one, starting in the slums of Ardis. It is unknown what his exact birthdate was but his birth-year is suspected to have been three thousand and eleven. The origins of his name and his parents are unknown. His personal journal that he began to keep after he was sent to the army tells much of his life, which will be released fully on a later date.
He was taken to the courts in the year three thousand and twenty-two for stealing a piece of cheese from a cart and sentenced to twelve years of unpaid labor, in whatever work our great King Hanser chose for him. He was sent to the Blacksmith of Folick to work. However, when the war broke out, the king called all who were fit to fight, including those who were under sentences, so the young Ruger went to war. In the year three thousand and twenty-six, he was promoted to corporal for an act of bravery. After ten years of faithful service, he was again promoted, this time to lieutenant and a year later, when his sentence was up, he was promoted to captain. He was promoted to General by the king himself in the year three thousand and thirty-six when he managed to defend the southwesterly border from the Poschtians. He has been a general for fourteen years.
The record of Ruger Pietman in the army is unbelievebly clean, despite his early crime.
His last words were yelled at one of his men. “Keep fighting men! We’ll win yet!”
The Battle of Hollin was won at a very high cost, taking by our count, along with General Pietman, over two thousand of our men.
Intriguing article. I see you used it to tell a story about a specific character. Makes me curious about the world. I also like how you have the newspaper-like layout! And, can I just say, sentenced to twelve years of labor for stealing a piece of cheese is a bit harsh. That makes me even more curious about the world.
