Glayn
Sparkling and hard, the Glayn is a highly popular jewel in the world of Kalste. Its color shades from lime green to pale yellow, found in the caves in a mountain in Wolnit. It extremely hard, almost impossible to break and it shades into the color of pink when it gets cold or hot, going back to its original color when it reaches room temperature once again, the main reason for its popularity, as well as its rarity.
Glayn is difficult and dangerous to get to, but the prices for one small jewel is highly popular. Glayn is generally put on a necklace, ring or bracelet alone, considered to show as its best.
The only jewel in the queen’s crown in the country of Reuv is one beautiful large Galyn. Glayn lasts for generations, some say forever, and can be accidentally dropped and show no scratch, another reason for its popularity.
Even after it’s taken out of its hiding places, it has to go through a long process to cut it into jewels. The process is often done by a blacksmith, as he has the tools to heat it hot enough. Once it is glowing red, it is able to be cut like butter, for about one minute, before going back to its completely hardened state. It is a delicate process, as once its heated once, it is almost impossible to get it hot enough to cut again. Someone with a Glayn is considered one of the wealthiest people in the world. There are a couple very famous particular pieces that are said to be cursed, blessed or priceless, being unique in color or shape.
The Nuallistan Glayn is considered to be highly cursed, and now sits in the Alin-Paxtor museum. It has had nine owners, all of whom died within two weeks of owning it, from sickness, accidents, and in once case, outright murder.
