Matoulan Orc

Basic Information

Anatomy

Matoulan orcs are the smallest of the various species of orcs. Despite their size, they are still extremely strong. Their tusks, which are slightly shorter than the tusks of other orcs, are their lower canines, which grow a few inches out of their mouth. Because of how their tusks developed, the lower jaws of Matoulan orcs protrude forward.
The biggest distinction between Matoulan and other orcs is their arms. Matoulan have longer arms than other orcs. If they lean forward, their arms can reach the ground and they often use them to walk, similar to gorillas.

Biological Traits

Matoulan males and females vary greatly, but it is often hard for other creatures to distinguish them. Females grow much larger than the males, up to 15 centimeters taller and 30 kilograms heavier on average. Despite this variation in size, they still look very similar. Females don't grow facial hair, but males don't start to grow facial hair until around 20 years old. As such, it can be very difficult to distinguish males from females while they are young.

Genetics and Reproduction

Matoulan orcs reproduce sexually and give live birth. Gestation usually takes 5-6 months.

Growth Rate & Stages

Matoulan orcs reach maturity even quicker than other orcs, usually being considered adults by the time they are 4 years old. Matoulan males typically reach sexual maturity by the time they are 8, while the females do not reach sexual maturity until they are 10. Despite being considered adults from a very young age, Matoulan grow relatively slowly and do not reach their full size until they are nearly 20 years old. Also around 20 years old, males begin to grow facial hair. Matoulan are considered elderly around 37 years old, despite being capable of living for upwards of 70 years.

Ecology and Habitats

Matoulan are primarily adapted for life in forests and jungles, with their smaller size making it easier for them to catch prey and enemies unaware. In addition, their wide eyes allow them to see well at night and in shadowy undergrowth. Despite their preference for living in forest, however, Matoulan are also more capable of living in other environments than most orcs. They have been known to inhabit nearly any environment, only avoiding those with threats they cannot kill.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Matoulan are the most lenient of the orcs when it comes to their diet. Although they prefer meat, like all orcs, they are much more willing to eat other foods and have been known to regularly supplement their meals with vegetables and the occasional grain.

Additional Information

Facial characteristics

Matoulan have tall, flat faces, although their jaws protrude forward. Their eyes are very wide and tend towards shades of yellow and green. Unlike other orcs, Matoulan's noses do not curve forward, instead seeming flattened slightly into their face. Their tusks, an extra set of canines on their lower jaw, grow a few inches out of their mouths.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Matoulan orcs can be found in most regions of the world. They are most common in New Garya, Arad, and the Zekal Empire given the large areas of forest, jungle, and swamps. Although they are found almost everywhere, Matoulan are almost never found in the Frozen Isles or Sekal due to the frigid temperatures.

Average Intelligence

Matoulan orcs are slightly better educated than other orcs on average, but their exact level of education depends heavily on their tribe. In general, however, Matoulan orcs are the only orcs who normally learn to read and write from a young age. Matoulan orcs are also slightly better than most orcs when it comes to maths and sciences. As a result, it is not uncommon to find a few Matoulan orcs among other orc tribes acting similarly to accountants.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Matoulan orcs have wide eyes that give them exceptional night vision. They also have a decent sense of smell, but it is nothing compared to other species of orc.
Scientific Name
Gorilla Sus Sapiens
Lifespan
71 years
Average Height
1.9 - 2.6 meters
Average Weight
90 - 140 kg
Average Physique
Matoulan, like all orcs, are very powerful, but they lack some of the musculature of other orcs. In addition, Matoula orcs frequently walk with their arms on the ground, similarly to a gorilla, making their shoulders one of the strongest parts of their bodies compared to other orcs. Matoulan are also slightly more likely to possess fat than other orcs, and being fat is not shunned in all Matoulan clans.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
Matoulan orcs come in a wide variety of colors, although they are mostly shades of green. Matoulan orcs have been seen with black, grey, brown, blue, purple, green, and red skin. Unlike the Agashnu, however, who revere orcs with red skin, Matoulan only regard the skin color of other orcs as a way to determine where they come from. Matoulan tend to have skin that blends in with the environment they grow up in. Matoulan also frequently are born with discolored skin, making it even easier to camouflage with some of their surroundings.
