The Demon Spires

”I sat in the dark mine, sweat forming on my brow. I hefted my trusty pick and looked down the narrow tunnel, starring into an inky void. ‘Well, I gotta make a living,’ I muttered as I started to walk down the passage, keeping a close eye on the shadows. As I made my way into the dark, I noticed something was off in one of the walls. I crept closer and began to inspect it. I shouted in surprise, ‘By the gods, its gold!’ I raised my pick and began to chip away at the surrounding stone. The sound of me banging away at the wall echoed through the caverns. I had almost gotten the gold out when I heard footsteps from deeper into the dark. I paused. ‘Who’s there?’ I shouted into the dark. At first I heard nothing, but then I heard what sounded like a growling animal. I stepped away from the wall and placed a hand on the dagger at my belt. I snuck further down the passage, weapons at the ready. I heard another growl, louder this time. I froze. I stood in the narrow tunnel, peering into the void, listening to the footsteps slowly growing louder. Whatever was down there was getting closer. It was also big, shaking the very ground with each step. I was starting to shake. Suddenly, I could see some of the creature. It was massive, almost scrapping its head agains the ceiling. It’s arms hung low enough to drag against the ground with massive claws glancing off the earth. It raised its head and glared at me with eyes as red as fire. I turned around and ran as soon as I saw it and haven’t gone back down there since.”
