The Crossroads
The Crossroads is a small starbase on the edge of the Roslexian Sector that is actually little more than a trading post located just beyond the UAG controlled territory that surrounds the intersection of several interstellar trade routes. While it is off the beaten path, as far as the UAG's heavy freighters are concerned, it is a popluar spot for the light freighter pilots who handle the smaller runs. Generally populated by a hodgepodge of many different species from all sorts of worlds and all walks of life, the Crossroads is a wide open place that has no official laws per se. Pretty much anything goes here as long as you don't damage the property or do anything that will attract the attention of the UAG regulators.
For as long as anyone can remember, the Crossroads has been owned by four brothers: Mike, Gabe, Rafi and Uri. No one knows where they came from, and there has been quite a bit of speculation since they seem rather odd and haven't aged a bit in all the time they've been there. Mike runs the Crossroads Cafe and is in charge everything related to food, drink and entertainment. Gabe is in charge of communication, incoming and outgoing ships and all things tech related. Rafi is in charge of keeping everything flowing smoothly including supplies, workers and merchants as well as maintenance. Uri is officially in charge of security and commerce, but unofficially he runs a very lucrative black market.
The design and decor of the base are a bit out dated but well maintained. There are rings at either end of the Crossroads that house docking ports which can accomodate light freighters and other assorted small craft. The rest of the base consists of a multilevel cylindrical center containing cargo holds, small sleeping quarters for rent, a market promenade with stalls that merchants rent to sell all kinds of exotic wares, small eaterys offering ethnic cuisine from all over Kantostara, and at the center of it all is the Crossroads Cafe.
The Crossroads Cafe is a sprawling establishment spanning three levels at the center of the starbase where just about everyone goes to eat, drink and socialize. It is run by Mike, who can often be found tending bar there. It has large windows, some affording a view of the stars while others face the market promenade, giving one the opportunity to people watch. There are also gaming areas as well as gambling and other adult entertainments. They even have a house band called Rhythm playing Xercathian dance music until the wee hours on most nights.
