High-hollow Celebration

Prepare for the Cold

Celebrated at the onset of the cold season, High-hollow is a holiday to acknowledge the upcoming dark season and strengthen the bonds of family and community.

In modern years, High-hollow is seen as a celebration and opportunity to connect with important people before the isolating cold season. Now it's less about honouring the Speaking Gods with science having shown the movement of the realm and passing of seasons as a stellar constant and not the whims of divine presence.

History

In past ages High-hollow was linked directly to the worship of Elairion and Jit, deities of cold darkness and afterlife. Legend says the two deities are lovers, spending a season away from the realm every year to enliven their love affair and allow the world to warm. During their absence the skies grow brighter and the weather more temperate. High-hollow is a celebration of their return, despite the difficulties it brings with it.

Observance

Most common people celebrate by preparing a variety of meats as a feast for their families and close friends. Nourishment is a universal need and having your needs cared for by another is a profound honour in Allegran culture, especially before a known time of hardship. It's a symbolic way of telling your friends; "I know food is prescious and times will be tough, but you'll always have a share of my wealth."

It is tradition to celebrate High-hollow on the day in Megalu when both Dark-Heart and Bright-Soul are at their darkest which usually falls in the second week of the month. Certain folk will close their businesses as part of their celebrations for the day or days leading up to the holiday.
