Lats, Kots, and Rounds

Lats, Kots, and Rounds

Across Allegri and established shortly after the Allegran Accords, the standardized currency is known as 'lats'. Since it's inception, the leaders of capitals knew they would need a simple and consistent way for people to barter and trade goods. Within a couple years the government had begun producing lats - a form of currency with no inherent value and maintained on the authority of the Mansa.

Appearance & Production

Lats are artificially produced crystals grown into specific shapes and colours, engineered through a combination of chemistry and arcana. Smaller than the traditional gold coins, lats, kots, and rounds were designed to resemble much smaller versions of traditional gold and silver bars. Gold had occassionally been used as currency throughout history but the value would fluctuate and had generally become more of a symbol of status than of true wealth.

Properites

Incredibly durable, lats are non-metallic, non-porous, and inured against both extreme heat and frigid cold, lats are nearly impossible to accidentally damage. Direct heat will not damage the strange material, although exposure to intense flames, such as from a forge or certain arcana formulae, can scorch them, ruining their surface and rendering them worthless. Unless an invokheir is extremely skilled, they'll find that all three forms of currency somehow have a natural resistence to arcana; arcana simply doesn't 'see' the material and lats in an area affected by magic usually seem wholly immune to any effect that washes over them.
