Mossore Antitoxin

Phototoxic Prophylactic

On the open plains of Allegri there isn't much to look at unless you're far enough north to see the Reidsole Mountain Range. Taking advantage of this, much of the predatory plantlife that inhabit the vast empty prairies have developed a potent phototoxin that can incapacitate unlucky or stupid creatures simply by getting a scratch from the prickles or thorns.

The most commonly known example is mossore grass, which the antitoxin was named after. When disturbed it causes a severe rash, even in thick-skinned animals. A touch can cause sensitive blisters and mild symptoms associated with allergies. If a creature is scratched and the suface of their skin broken, the effects are significantly worse. Immediate the area becomes sensitive to strong light, especially direct sunlight and inflames, often worsening the tear in the skin and increasing the likelihood of additional exposure to sources of the toxin from the surrounding area.

When consumed the reaction is much more severe, especially in smaller creatures. It almost immediately causes similar symptoms as a prick from their thorns; swollen tongue, inflamed throat, and upset stomach. excrutiating internal blistering If untreated it can bring on racking pain, loss of motor function, paralysis and eventually death.

By combining a natural anti-toxin found in certain animals with a human blood serum, medical researchers at the Dannamore hospital have developed an antidote to counter the mossore toxin. It is nearly 100% effective but must be administered before much damage is done, otherwise the internal wounds can still prove fatal.

Availability & Access

This antidote is only the latest breakthrough the Dannamore has made public and widely available. Any shop interested in carrying stock can place an order and sell the antidote. Most leave the vials of fluid in their bottles from Dannamore, however some swap labels or bottles to sell their the product as their own.
Fortunately the final compound is stable and extremely non-reactive. It does not need to be kept cool or away for direct light and has not yet spoiled or gone inert once sealed in the bottles the Dannamore package it in. Whether this will prove long-lasting has yet to be seen, as shops throughout Etude repackage and modify the antitoxin to claim it as their own.

Discovery

This antitoxin is just one of many new applications possible due to the discovery of molecules by a chemist doing research for the Dannamore nearly two decades ago. Through the widespread dissemination of this, others quickly began to expand on the information across all scientific disciplines and antitoxins were eventually discovered.
