Siege of Medale

Shortly after sunset the mountain city of Medale was besieged by goblins on the 10th of Megalu, 751SN. A previously unheardof number of goblins seemed to appear from nowhere, armed with bladed metal weapons and reportedly manning a dozen roughly constructed trebuchet. Their weapons and equipment were far more advanced than should have been available to them and they had never previously shown the level of organization required to rally thousands of the chaotic creatures to a single cause. Previous to this, goblins had only been thought of as notable vermin, to be considered and planned for but not a serious threat.

Two days passed with the gates and walls taking heavy damage from the goblin artillery before the military forces within the city rallied and organized a counterstrike that would disable the seige weapons the goblins were using. Focusing on hit-and-run tactics combined with their most powerful Warmages to make precise strikes against the heavy weapons while risking as little as possible. As if someone had been waiting for such a strike, the moment the final trebuchet was destroyed and the human military squad retreated from the field a thick mist coalesced over the gathered horde, making future strikes impossible. This, too, displayed a skill in magic that had never been seen from goblins.
As a mountain city, Medale was cornered by the goblin army with no method of retreat if their walls were breached so the mages and engineers focused on maintaining the defenses, while covert messengers raced to the other cities for reinforcements.

Historical Significance

Technological Advancement

Throughout history, human civilization never had sophistocated defenses like those Medale boasted at the time. As such, when the goblins arrived at Medale with siege engines capable of not only destroying thier walls, but also launching massive projectiles past their defenses, the people of Allegri were not prepared.
