Carensenth
Carensenth was founded at the same time as Morenstople, and is across the channel from it. The two ships of colonists split forces with the largest number going to Morenstople and the smaller popuation going to Carensenth.
Carensenth is built on top of an old Nethen ruin, but most of it remains under the sands. Exposed blocks from the old buildings were repurposed to create the new structures until wood could be imported to build additional structures. In addition, wood is often used to frame builidings, and mud made with dirt and sea water, then mixed with fibrous plant materials to make a form of adobe is used over the frame. Often an internal reed lattice is made over the frame, and the mud adheres to the lattice without the need to bake the bricks in the sun.
Since the buildings are made of adobe and wood frame, they require frequent maintenance and this is a strain on the population as most people spend their time farming. The city is entirely a hodgepodge of buildings with no structures to the streets, alleys, or even the low quality docks. There is no sanitation, and even well water can be tainted with sewage or sea water.
Crime is abundant in the city, and the pickpockets and thugs are everywhere. Even the most worldly outsider needs to worry when walking through the city. Traders rarely go beyond the docks and only stay as long as needed.
There is no real guard in the city. About 20 individuals make up the policing force,, but are so overworked and corrupt that there is no sense of justice or law in the city.
The city of around 10,000 people is primarily agricuturally focused. Along the ocean, land stretching inland for a few miles tends to be very fertile, with numerous trees including coconuts, and citrus being prevalent. In addition, crops are grown throughout the orchards and fed with water from wells. This is possible due to the very shallow water table.
The city is governed by an appointed puppet governor from Morenstople.
Demographics
Morenstople is made up of 90% human, and 10% mixed of elves, dwarves, halflings, and a few centaur.
