Religion, A General Overview

Karenth is a world of magic, but it was created in this cosmos for a divine purpose. The lands of Karenth can be strange as the world was made and used as a sandbox by the gods so they could figure out what laws could be created, manipulated, and those that failed. Once this was determined, they would have all of the pieces to create additional worlds.   However, they gods would generally not create and destroy their creations. Instead they focused mostly on creation, and when they were done with the creation of lands, they would move on and build other ones. However, laws were univeral throughout most of Karenth. Thus if a god changed a law, like how much gravity, this would effect the entire plane. Exceptions to this rule exist, as some of the gods would create protective boundaries around their work areas or lands so other gods would not alter their work.   As time when on, and the gods figured out how to build permanent realms elsewhere based on what they learned, they would move on to these new realms. When this happened, they would have full power in their new worlds, but only leave behind their essence, or aspect.   As peoples of the world would come to rely on specific aspects such as magic, nature, pain, healing, etc., they would give power to those aspects. If one individual was considered the center of that aspect, and they to fully believed this, once they had enough true followers, they might rise to the level of a demi god and eventually gain more power as their influence increased. Once they become a diety they lose their natural form and become part of the aspect. Sometimes they were able to create avatars to walk the plane and interact with others, but this is rare and requires a vast amount of divine energy and need from the people.   People believe in specific aspects of their life instead of gods in Karenth. The more people believing in a domain, the more power and stronger the aspect. When the Displaced arrived, this balance was altered by the large sudden influx of people, but an equilibrium of power was restored quickly within the nature of the aspects. During the first year of this disruption, the aspects were weak in the area around Freedom's Gate due to no worshipers for many thousands of years. As such agriculture, and several of other aspects power grew quickly to increase the impact upon the lands and other peoples. This led to a series of skirmishes between the Displaced, and the native peoples such as the goblins, orcs, and ogres who inhabited the area.
