The Battle of the Currents

The Battle of the Currents was the defining war that decided the fate of Kathrir and whether it would fall to ruin or stay alive. On one side, you had the Kathririan Army, lead by the human king Ixion and was accompanied by the five primordials, and on the other side, you had the Shadow Army, lead by an unknown person who had harnessed magical powers beyond even some deities' abilities. Some say that they were just a normal person who had gone mad with power, while others recount that it had a small resemblance to Ixion's brother who had been missing for twelve years.  Whoever it was, they gave the Kathririan Army an incredibly hard time.  With lots of perseverance, Ixion lead his army to victory, although getting badly injured in the process. As he was breathing his last breaths, the deities approached him and performed a ritual, bestowing upon him the gift of immortality and turning him into the deity of Leadership and Truth.

The terrain was a large, rocky shore by the edge of the mana currents. At the time, these currents were moving like rapids and rising every minute.

Conditions

All fighters in the battle were exposed to massive amounts of mana radiation, causing some to even overload their mana and burn it out completely and permanently, rendering their magic useless. It is currently unknown how many died from this exposure. Even those who didn't overload from overexposure were struggling, as close proximity to the huge mana scarce would cause all magic to go haywire.

The Battle of the Currents is remembered as the battle that kept the world from falling into darkness's claws. A thousand years later, it is still remembered and there is a massive festival held in each city in remembrance of those who sacrificed their safety to keep the world safe.

Around 900,000 shadow beasts, creatures made of pure shadow ranging from the size of a cat to the size of a dragon. The mana heals them, making fighting them near a mana source incredibly difficult.

The exact number is unknown but it is estimated to be around 12%. (About 87,840 deaths)

100% of the shadow army's forces were killed during the battle.
