camlitz (CAM-lits)
The camlitz is an amphibious animal with a mane, short body hair, ears shaped like an upside-down heart symbol, and three-toed webbed feet. Its shaggy, prehensile proboscis can be used to root around in the shallows for food, or used as a snorkel when swimming underwater.
Additional Information
Domestication
Their wild ancestors were native to the rivers of south-eastern Vancorra, but they were domesticated by Vancorrans a few thousand years ago and raised for meat. Farmers would stretch a net across a shallow river and build a fence enclosure on either bank, allowing the camlitzes to live in their natural environment until they were large enough to harvest. After the Lanarian conquest, camlitzes were exported and became a popular source of meat throughout the Lanarian Empire.
Camlitz meat is often served in a sandwich or a stew.
