Personal history

Varian the Crowned Prince

Before Varian ascended the throne he spent his early childhood learning how to rule from his father King Llayne the 3rd. Varian was taught how to rule over the people easily enough however, he and his father had long talks about keeping the nobles in check. Llayne would spend hours discussing with Varian the choices he made when dealing with the court, the possible outcomes, the personalities of those involved, plans should they disagree with his judgment, and so on. Varian learnt from his father that as it is in war so it is with nobles, your plans need to be flexible or risk failure.   Along with this Varian was taught the ways of the sword and bow, however, the blade, in particular, he proved to be no less than a prodigy, besting many of The Sons of Darnath before he turned 16. Varian preferred light greatswords, a strange request and an expensive one; his father commissioned the Featherstep family to craft his son a sword that met his unique tastes and for most of his time as Crowned Prince.

The 1st Wrynn Expansion

Varian had a large role in the war lead by his father, tasked with raising his own forces and leading the campaign in the northern Hill Lands. Varian took this opportunity to show his father and the kingdom that he had the making of a ruler, one able to handle the nobles squabble and lead a force into battle. Varian earned the name the wolf prince here, fighting with his knights like a pack of wolves. They would hunt down orc settlements and strike with speed and power then retreat waiting for the next opportunity, although just like a wolf Varian took his share of wounds but always eager to lick them clean and strike back. The Order of Wrynn was tasked with keeping the king's son safe, however, they would return to their king telling tales of his son's bravery how he saved them more times then the care to count.

King of Stormwind

Varian is the 4th king of the Wrynn Dynasty and a capable warrior and governer, he relies upon his Chancellor only for times of war when his attention is upon the battlefields and not upon the homeland. Varian is a fair ruler although his love for glory and battle sometimes overwhelms his better judgement, this has caused many brawls and even one war.

Kidnapping

Varian was kidnapped by Lady Hercule Prestor a descendant of the Hill Lands Prestors, her lust for power never ceased. Originally Lady Prestor sorts out to become Chancellor of the kingdom wanting the power and authority that came with such a great title, however, when she manipulated her way to the position she craved she found she wanted more. Varian new to the throne trusted Lady Prestor who managed the nobles with such ease, a mistake he never forgave himself for. Prestor hired pirates to kidnap the king and slay him out at sea, so she could convince the council of nobles to install her as queen, much like the passing of power between the Wrynn and Anderhiem Dynasty before.   Varian should have been slain however, the pirates wished to have a sport of such a fine warrior, so they took him to the gladiator pits near the Auroan City State, where he would fight until he died in the arena. Varian's skills made him such a favourite with the crowd that he was eventually armed with more than the common weapons given to him. The Pirate captain bequeathed him the legendary blade, Schatten'Riter in hopes of spicing up the bouts and earning him more money in the process. This proved to be a big mistake for the pirates. Varian armed with such a mighty weapon fought his way out with other prisoners and fellow gladiators and sailed home to Stormwind. Upon his dramatic arrival in the throne room flanked by gladiators, the court was shocked, and Varian declared that Lady Prestor Regent of the throne was a traitor:
"Nobles of my court, servants in my court, Knights who protect this kingdom in my name, look upon this heathen who would kidnap your king, who would seek to Userp MY THRONE AND SEE YOUR KINGS JUSTICE SERVED!"
— King Varian Wrynn, before executing Lady Prestor

Aouran War

Varian seeing the Auoran colony south of Sotrmwinds borders, grew concerned that Aoura would start to expand and cut off any southern expansion for Stormwind. Varian was advised to send diplomats to Auora so that they might resolve this peacefully, but his hotheadedness prevailed and Varian marched upon the small trading colony. Varian issued an ultimatum either pledge the colony to Stormwind or die and they will take it anyway. Varian leads the assault he massacre that followed, securing the colony and Stormwinds interests, although it was not long before the Aouran city-state responded in force for Varian's blatant aggression. Aoura sent its mighty navy to blockade the port, and Varian in-kind sent his navy in force to bottle the Aouran navy in the bay in which the colony sat. While Varian sort to seek a diplomatic solution, after seeing his actions bare only sour fruit, a troop of templars burn the colony to the ground, effectively ending negotiations. Varian ordered the execution of the templar traitors but the Arch Lector forbade it and for the first time, in nearly a century the Church and the Crown were openly working against each other. Varian dropped his rage and turned his attention to the war, where the Aouran fleet broke through the stormwind blockade and was headed home. Varian issued chase orders to bring down the fleet so that Stormwind might be able to sue for peace, however, Varian underestimated the power of their fleet, and the ensuing battle wiped out the majority of Stormwinds naval power, but luckily the blow they dealt with the Aourans was substantial enough that peace was agreed upon. Varian looked away from the war after this and endeavoured to make peace with the church fearing another civil war.
