Magai Journal of Spell-Discovery
An old journal written during the early years of the Second Age, by an unknown Magai. Written in the first few years of the existence of the Grand Order of the Magai, little research was done yet into the powers of Vita, and the abilities of Vita-Touched. As such, the early few Magai spent much time experimenting, and often kept journals with their discoveries. Over time, most of these were moved into archives to ensure they were preserved, their data copied into digital systems, though a scant few were instead moved along Magai lineages.
This old journal was one of those few, with every teacher passing it along to their student, or to an interested student befriended with theirs. As such, it survived the destruction of the Grand Magai Temple, where it was kept most of the time. The Magai who owned it at that moment perished soon after, but managed to pass the book to an allied non-Touched.
Purpose
This journal was kept by a Magai who was documenting their own experimentation and experiences with magic, especially with developing specific spells and abilities. Though it was just a journal to them, it was rediscovered during the Fourth Age and used to rebuild the knowledge of magic from scratch.

Historical Details
Background
Written during the very early years of the Grand Order of the Magai, when magic was brand new and little was known about it. As such, experimentation was important, as was sharing any knowledge gained... and thus documenting any discoveries was critical.
History
Written initially during the Second Age as personal reference, it became a general piece of knowledge over time, when its contents were digitized and became accessible to most of the Grand Order of the Magai. The physical book was passed from teacher to student, until the downfall of the Grand Order, when the Magai who owned it was outside the Grand Temple and thus survived the slaughter. They didn't live for long, but managed to pass the book along to a non-Touched, who couldn't use it but who kept it safe.
In the Fourth Age, with magic returning to the public, the current owner of the journal saw a young Vita-Touched struggling to discover their magic without guidance, and passed the book along to them, so it could serve its purpose once more. It was digitized again, now publicly accessible, and became a key source of knowledge, of great use for the education of Vita-Touched in the Fourth Age.
Legacy
The journal, once an item of personal reference, has gained a legacy of teaching. During the Second Age it was used to educate fellow Magai, both in the spells documented within and the history behind their Order. In the Third Age it was hidden, kept secret, but in the Fourth Age it popped back up to resume its centuries-long legacy of education. It was used not just for the spells contained within, but to guide the new Vita-Touched on how to best explore their abilities and establish their own spells, rather than just copy the knowledge of those before them.
