Tokensaturn's New Constitution

Small Village to Big City

Tokensaturn City was founding in the year 23 as a small village of twenty-seven skee. Their previous village had grown too large and the resources around could not sustain them so closely after the devastation of the forest caused by the Beings' abandonment. Originally, this new tiny village followed the traditional skee arrangement for self governance: one village leader to make final decisions, four council members to advise the leader and act as court, and and six sentinels to monitor the goings-ons of the village.   Over time, Tokensaturn began to grow from a small village to a bustling city. The patch of land they had chosen turned out to be quite fertile and biodiverse, and with the skees' careful cultivation the forest supported them. However, as the city grew, so did its troubles.

Chaos

By the time the population of Tokensaturn reached 300, chaos was growing daily. The council had a backlog of complaints scheduled into the following year, and though the the squad of sentinels had been increased from six to fifteen over the years, they spent all their time attempting to manage predators on the outskirts of the city and were unable to assist with crime management, leaving the skee of Tokensaturn to come up with their own ways of dealing with no-gooders. These methods often involved running skee out of town for stealing. One skee by the name of Rif Lula Lilisan was said to have ran out three kits for stealing one of her cherry pies.   In the year 1057, after a group of skee calling themselves the Puritans began lynching skees for having a single white mark on one of their paws (this is still believed to be a mark of a skee that is innately selfish), the Village Leader Jil Poro Perqiya realized that Tokensaturn needed a massive change in its systems. Perqiya called for a woodcarver to draw up a new constitution for Tokensaturn in the side of the Ash tree that served as the city's council room.

The Tokensaturn Constitution

The Tokensaturn Constitution was the first written document in any skee settlement to organize the laws of a city. This constitution lists the basic commandments for skee living, but more importantly, organized a new system for the ruling of Tokensaturn. The Constitution was signed by Perqiya, and the four incumbent council members in the year 1057. The Constitution and its Signatures have warped over the years as the old ash tree has grown, but they are still visible to the public, and the current Tokensaturn Court still resides in this tree.   Perqiya organized Tokensaturn City into districts and assigned a district leader, called the Reds, district council, and group of sentinel to each of these districts. Each of these districts reported back to the City Leader, the Tokensaturn Court, and a group of sentinels called the Tokensaturn Force. At the time of the Constitution's creation, Tokensaturn was divided into three districts. It is currently divided into ten.   More specific laws and precedents are now organized by the Tokensaturn Court and kept in the only skee Library.

The Commandments

These are the commandments listed in the Tokensaturn Constitution
  • There shall be no stealing of goods belonging to the persons of the city
  • There shall be no murder of the persons of the city
  • There shall be no stealing of persons of the city of any age for forced labor
  • There shall be no persons of the city denied the ability to participate in the labor of Tokensaturn
  • There shall be no persons of the city denied access to the food and shelter of Tokensaturn
  • There shall be no false witness against the person of Tokensaturn

Public Reception

Though there were some skirmishes about these new laws, especially as new sentinels entered the districts and as people argued over who should be in which districts, overall the city was glad to have new order and more direct access to law enforcement.

It sounds like this treaty was sorely needed by the time it came into force. Yikes about the lynching of those poor skee.
