The spirit world, similar to the physical world, has its own communities and hierarchies. Not all yokai exist under this system, but those that do likely have more personal agency and higher functioning mental capabilities compared to other near animialistic yokai. This hierarchy functions like a feudal system of a king, advisors, and lords. At the top of this system is the spirit world king, Akihiba Ken , who is a large red oni that has been the ruler since time immemorial. Because most yokai are typically undying creatures, spirit world will often become over populated, and compete for its limited food supply of humans and animals from the material world. In order to combat this, Akihiba will periodically hold reviews of every yokai, and ones that are not deemed to be productive members of society are put into mass death tournaments, where the few survivors are allowed to live. Yokai society generally favors status quo, strength, and hedonism, meaning it was remained largely unchanged over time. Akihiba has a kitsune vizier named Fumio Zawagiri that acts as an advisor and administrator. He also has a shinigami general named Lord Moriyoshi Karahashi that leads any organized offensive efforts for the demonic court. Typically he will use his most powerful underlings, fellow shinigami called the inner circle. Akihiba's palace is located in Tokyo (or rather where Kyosaka is in the material plane, similar to the actual Imperial Palace.
