Matsuri

Bards of the College of Matsuri are inspired by the spirit and magic of traditional festivals, drawing on the joy, vibrancy, and communal energy of these celebrations. These bards have a knack for creating powerful spectacles that bolster allies, intimidate foes, and inspire entire crowds. Masters of dazzling displays and infectious energy, Festival Bards can turn any moment into an occasion, wielding light and sound like weapons on the battlefield.  

Matsuri Spells

  • 1st Level: Color Spray, Healing Word
  • 2nd Level: Calm Emotions, Mirror Image
  • 3rd Level: Major Image, Beacon of Hope
  • 4th Level: Greater Invisibility, Hallucinatory Terrain
  • 5th Level: Seeming, Mass Cure Wounds
  • Festival of Lights

    At 3rd level when you join the College of Festivals at 3rd level, you gain the ability to inspire and protect your allies with a dazzling display of light. As a bonus action, you can cause an area within 30 feet to fill with magical, glowing lights resembling fireworks or paper lanterns. The lights cover a 10-foot radius sphere centered on a point you can see within range. Allies within this area gain temporary hit points equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1) and have advantage on their next attack roll or saving throw. The effect lasts for 1 minute or until you choose to end it as a bonus action. You can only have one Festival of Lights active at a time. Usable a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, refreshing on a long rest.  

    Thunderous Fireworks

    Starting at 3rd level, you learn how to weaponize sound and light, creating thunderous displays to disorient your enemies. As an action, you can release a burst of sound and light that affects all creatures within a 20-foot radius centered on you. Creatures in the area must succeed on a Constitution saving throw against your spell save DC or be blinded and deafened until the end of their next turn. If a creature fails its saving throw by 5 or more, it is also frightened of you until the start of your next turn. Usable once per short or long rest.  

    Encore Performance

    At 6th level, your inspirational abilities improve, allowing you to share the benefits of your magical encouragement with more allies. Whenever you use Bardic Inspiration, you can choose to target two creatures instead of one. When both creatures roll your Bardic Inspiration die within the same round, each gains temporary hit points equal to the roll result.  

    Matsuri Spirit

    Starting at 14th level, you gain the ability to transform the battlefield into a vibrant festival ground, inspiring allies and overwhelming enemies with a mesmerizing celebration. As an action, you can choose a 30-foot radius within 60 feet of you to fill with a magical matsuri ambiance for 1 minute. The area is filled with ethereal lights, the sound of festive music, and the faint presence of celebratory spirits. While the Matsuri Spirit is active, the following effects apply within the area:
  • Allies have advantage on all saving throws and gain temporary hit points equal to your Bard level at the start of each of their turns.
  • Enemies must make a Wisdom saving throw at the start of each of their turns. On a failure, they are charmed by the festive spirit, losing the will to fight for 1 round. While charmed, their movement is reduced by half, and they cannot take reactions.
  •   Usable once per long rest.
