Sohei

Sohei

The Oath of the Sohei is a sacred vow that blends martial prowess with spiritual enlightenment. These paladins walk the line between serenity and fury, embodying the teachings of balance, discipline, and spiritual power. Sohei paladins are often warrior-monks, combining divine magic and physical skill to protect their temple, uphold sacred traditions, and strike down the forces that threaten spiritual harmony. They are not bound by a rigid dogma but instead seek an inner balance between mind, body, and soul. Their oaths reflect dedication not just to battle, but to achieving a transcendent state of being, using martial discipline as a path to enlightenment. Through meditation and martial practice, the Sohei master their ki, channel divine power, and perfect themselves to become both fierce warriors and compassionate sages. Tenets of the Sohei     The tenets of the Oath of the Sohei focus on harmony, discipline, and sacred guardianship.
  • Balance. True strength lies in maintaining harmony—between fury and peace, offense and defense, body and mind.
  • Discipline. Master yourself before you seek to master others. Practice without cease and live with purpose.
  • Compassion. All beings suffer. Through your actions, lessen the suffering of others, even if it means raising your sword in defense.
  • Guardian of the Sacred. Protect sacred places and defend the spirits of the land. Your duty is not to the crown but to the sanctity of life and tradition.
  •

    Oath of the Sohei Spells

  • 3rd Sanctuary, Zephyr Strike
  • 5th Calm Emotions, Misty Step
  • 9th Haste, Spirit Guardians
  • 13th Freedom of Movement, Divination
  • 17th Wall of Force, Commune
  •

    Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following Channel Divinity options:
  • Serene Step. As an action, you channel the calmness of your spirit to move like the wind. For 10 minutes, your movement speed increases by 10 feet, and you can move across liquid surfaces, walls, or vertical surfaces without falling, provided you end your movement on solid ground.
  • Kiai Strike. As a bonus action, you unleash a powerful battle shout infused with divine energy. Your next melee weapon attack, if it hits, deals an extra amount of radiant damage equal to your paladin level and forces the target to make a Strength saving throw. On a failed save, the target is pushed 15 feet away and knocked prone.
  •

    Ki Strike

Also at 3rd level, you gain the ability to weave your martial arts into divine strikes. Your unarmed strikes become a weapon for your Divine Smite feature, and you can use Dexterity instead of Strength for attack and damage rolls with unarmed strikes and monk weapons (such as spears, staves, or scimitars). Additionally, whenever you use Divine Smite with an unarmed strike or monk weapon, it deals radiant damage instead of its usual type.

    Spirit of the Warrior

Starting at 7th level, your spiritual training allows you to shrug off harmful influences. You gain proficiency in Wisdom saving throws if you don’t already have it.     Additionally, when an ally within 10 feet of you fails a saving throw against being charmed or frightened, you can use your reaction to grant them a reroll, ending the effect on a success. The range of this aura increases to 30 feet at 18th level.

    Unbroken Mind

At 15th level, your disciplined mind makes you resistant to psychic intrusion. You gain immunity to the charmed condition, and you have resistance to psychic damage.     When you use your Serene Step Channel Divinity feature, you also become immune to being grappled or restrained for the duration.

    Avatar of Enlightened Fury

At 20th level, you become a perfect embodiment of harmony and battle. As an action, you enter a transcendent state for 1 minute, gaining the following benefits:
  • Radiant Flurry. When you take the Attack action, you can make two additional attacks with an unarmed strike or monk weapon.
  • Tranquil Defense. You have advantage on all saving throws, and enemies have disadvantage on attack rolls against you.
  • Perfect Ki Flow. When you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack, you can expend a spell slot to immediately force it to make a Constitution saving throw (DC = your spell save DC). On a failed save, the creature is stunned until the end of your next turn.
  •   Once you use this feature, you cannot do so again until you finish a long rest.
