Russia's abysmal performance in both the Russo-Japanese War and the Great War led to a revolution and deposition of the Tsarist regime. A provisional government was established, but it too was overthrown by a subversive element of communist revolutionaries. After a brutal civil war, the communists eventually won and the nation was consolidated under the ideology.Foreign Policy
With a world that is anywhere from distrustful to outright hostile towards communism, Russia finds itself with few allies outside of those of temporary convenience. Russia is a centrally planned command economy. Everything is nationalized and all prices are controlled. Engaging in and free market exchanges is actually illegal. This has not done wonders to uplift the average Russian citizen and rampant poverty and even starvation are common due to the incompetence of the centralized economic planners.Culture
Social engineering campaigns were initiated after the revolution to promote communist ideology and to erase traditional values and religion that conflicted with it from the public consciousness. While the plausible success of this is somewhat limited, the nation saw in upsurge in atheistic tendencies, and certain secular humanistic causes like gender equality.
