Bone Rat

The Bone Rat is a small, nocturnal creature that roams the more populated regions of Kenshi, particularly in the areas where death and decay are prevalent. These creatures are feared not for their size or strength, but for their insidious nature and the ominous signs they bring with them.

Bone Rats are primarily nocturnal, emerging from their nests in the cracks of rocks, abandoned buildings, or burrows to forage under the cover of darkness. Their eerie, high-pitched squeaks and the sound of their claws scraping against stone are unsettling to those who hear them in the dead of night. While Bone Rats are often seen alone, they are known to gather in packs when feeding or when a particularly large source of food is available. A swarm of Bone Rats can strip a corpse of flesh and bone in minutes, leaving nothing behind. Stories abound of Bone Rats appearing before a great calamity, and some tribes or factions view them with a mix of fear and respect.

Diet

Bone Rats primarily search for the dead or dying, even consuming the bones of their victims. They will however eat just about anything they can get their teeth sunk into including greenfruit or grains.

Bone Rot

Nearly all Bone Rats are infected with the deadly Bone Rot disease, which as the name suggests, rots your bones from the inside out. This disease is however treatable and many recover on their own without intervention.
Those infected with the Bone Rot disease often don't become aware they are ill until several days after initial infection. This disease is spread by the bite of a Bone Rat or from food that has been soiled by rats.
