Ballad of the Linebreakers
In 206, a village on the outskirts of the Drakweald Forest was raided by an Orcish horde; dozens were killed in their sleep during the pre-dawn attack. Amidst the chaos, one mother sent her child, a boy of just 8 years old, into the forest, telling him to run as fast as he could to the nearest guard post; to get help, or they would all perish.
The villagers fled into the forest, some evading capture for hours, but eventually, a small band was all that remained as the sun set. They were exhausted, without food, water, or hope, as the raiders closed in from all sides.
Breaking the night air, the crisp blare of a hunting horn startled the weary villagers; had they truly heard the sound?
When all seemed lost, through the undergrowth, the earth began to shake and rumble, but it was no earthquake. It was the beating of a thousand hooves, as the 67th cavalry, The Linebreakers, erupted from the road into the forest, cutting down the orcs and saving dozens of lives. The little boy had done his work, and had called to him the greatest fighting force in all of Therengia.
In the year 206, on the outskirts of Drakweald,
A village was struck by an Orcish horde, their fate sealed.
Dozens killed in their sleep, amidst the pre-dawn raid,
But one mother sent her son, just eight years old, to evade.
She urged him to run as fast as he could,
To the nearest guard post, to get help, or they all would be consumed.
The villagers fled into the forest, but only a small band survived,
Exhausted, hungry, and without hope, they could not thrive.
As the sun set, the raiders closed in from all sides,
But then a crisp blare of a hunting horn startled them with surprise.
Had they truly heard the sound, or was it a trick of the mind?
When all seemed lost, the earth shook, the forest was alive.
It was the beating of a thousand hooves, a force to behold,
The 67th cavalry, The Linebreakers , had come to unfold.
Breaking through the undergrowth, they cut down the orcs with ease,
Saving dozens of lives, and bringing the villagers to their knees.
The little boy had done his work, and summoned forth the greatest force,
The Linebreakers, renowned and feared, the pride of Therengia's source.
With valor and strength, they charged into the night,
And brought hope to the villagers, who now saw the light.
