Frosthold Valley

Frosthold Valley is a large, secluded valley located in the northern section of the Gemfire Mountains of the Nordreik. The valley is named after the constant cold temperature which permeates the area throughout the year, making it one of the coldest regions in the entire province.

Geography

Frosthold Valley is surrounded by tall, snow-capped peaks, which serve as a natural barrier from the outside world. It is situated at an elevation of approximately 7,000 feet above sea level, and measures around 20 miles in length and 10 miles in width. The valley is characterized by its rolling hills, deep ravines, and expansive glaciers. In the center of the valley lies a large, frozen lake which stretches for miles, and is fed by several nearby streams and underground springs.

Inhabitants

Frosthold Valley is home to a few hardy groups of nomadic tribes, including goliaths, frost giants, and minotaurs. These tribes live off the land, subsisting on hunting and gathering, and move frequently throughout the valley to follow food sources. They are known for their resilience in harsh conditions and expert mountaineering skills. However, the valley is not without its dangers, as a number of ferocious predators also call it home.

Purpose

Frosthold Valley is largely untouched by civilization and remains a wild, untamed wilderness. Its remote location and harsh climate make it unsuitable for permanent settlements. However, it is sometimes visited by adventurers seeking to explore its rugged terrain, uncover its secrets, and perhaps even discover valuable resources hidden deep within its frozen depths.

Natural Resources

Frosthold Valley is rich in natural resources, including a variety of minerals such as iron, copper, and silver. Its glaciers also contain precious gems and minerals that are highly prized by traders and jewelers. However, extracting these resources is incredibly difficult, and most attempts end in failure due to the harsh climate and dangerous wildlife.

Climate

Frosthold Valley is one of the coldest regions on the mainland of Kermoria, with temperatures rarely rising above freezing even during the summer months. Blizzards are a common occurrence, and the valley is often blanketed in several feet of snow. The cold temperature and abundant snowfall have helped to create a unique ecosystem in the valley, with specialized flora and fauna adapted to the harsh conditions.

Flora and Fauna

Despite the cold temperatures, Frosthold Valley is home to a variety of hardy plant life, including lichens, mosses, and hardy shrubs. The valley is also home to a variety of animals adapted to the cold, including woolly mammoths, snow bears, and arctic foxes. However, the valley's most fearsome inhabitants are the powerful yeti and frost salamanders which roam the area. These creatures are known to be incredibly dangerous and have been known to attack unwary travelers who venture too close to their territory.

Unique Feature

The most unique feature of Frosthold Valley is a massive glacier which spans several miles at the northern end of the valley. This glacier, known as the Frostspire Glacier, is a towering wall of ice that rises hundreds of feet into the air. It is constantly shifting and changing, and is known to release massive ice boulders which can flatten trees and other obstacles in their path. It is said that the Frostspire Glacier is home to an ancient ice elemental, which has lived there for centuries and guards the glacier's precious treasures. However, few have ever dared to venture close enough to find out if the legend is true.
