The Benintende (Ben-Intend-Eh)
Launched in 161 from Vegamos Shipwrights, the Benintende was purpose-built as a state of the art whaling vessel, intended for use in the shallow/semi-shallow areas off the coast of Northguard and within The Frigid Depths. She was lost in 172 under mysterious circumstances near Wrecker's Point with her surviving crew members telling tales of a sea monster attacking and destroying their vessel.
At the time of her loss, her cargo hold was, according to ship's logs, nearly full. As whale-oil barrels are magically protected, and thus likely still intact, the value of her cargo is estimated at nearly two hundred fifty thousand gold kronars; however, the wreck has not been found.
The Benintende's live oak keel was laid down in late 159 and fastened together with copper bolts. The bow and stern pieces of live oak were secured to the keel by an apron piece. The sturdy stern post was strengthened with hemlock root and white oak. Yellow pine shipped from the Danduwen Forest was used for the ship's beams, and hemlock or hackmatack was used for the hanging knees.

Power Generation
With a double-topsail rig bark and nearly 13,000 square foot of canvas, the Benintende, unloaded, could achieve incredible speeds where a whaling vessel was concerned. While no match for a man o' war, she was easily fast enough to compete with even the most agile and speedy whale.
Hangars & docked vessels
The Benintende carried four small whaling vessels, each manned by 3-5 personnel, for hunting and harpooning their targets. Each boat was approximately 10 feet in length and four in width, not much larger than a small rowboat used in calm waters of inland lakes.
