The Coming of the Jarin

The first Jarin to migrate to Melderyn arrive some 2,000 years ago. For about two centuries, they seem to have avoided dwelling near the remnants of either the Henge or Earthmaster cultures. Early Jarin tales, now seldom told, mention the perils of the "weirding stones" and the "people of the dusk." Whatever the basis of their early fears, two centuries dulled them, Cherafir was first occupied by the Jarin in about 1100BT and the Fyvrian chantry at Gelimo dates from about the same period.
The Henge people played an influential role in the development of the Melderyni. The island Jarin developed more quickly than, and along divergent lines from, their Harnic cousins. Many of the arcane secret societies trace their foundation to the twelfth century BT.
Melderyn, like the rest of southeastern Harn, was subject to the invasions of the Pharic barbarians in the tenth century BT. However, the island suffered none of the violent depredations that were common to Harn. What may have happened to the Jarin 500 years before before almost certainly happened to the invaders. They were quietly, peacefully assimilated, creating a new hybrid culture that was no less imbued with arcane influence.
