Anima Seeker

Career

Qualifications

Theoretically there is no floor to being an anima seeker; no required education, no specific qualification or certification, technically there's not even a necessary skill level associated with the profession. It could even be said that everyone who goes to new places and sees new things is already an anima seeker, they just don't realize it. In that way, the truest requirement is simply being aware that it's happening. Of course, organizations of anima seekers are likely to have their own requirements to ensure safety and success in their far-flung members as well as keep them oriented towards the organization's goals, but they are so varied and disparate that none of those could be accurately applied to the job itself.

Career Progression

For most anima seekers, the only progression in their career is a nebulous increase in reputation based on the number of anima they've awoken and the power those anima possess. Depending on their audience, there may also be a bump in one direction or another based on the anima bound to their person.

Other Benefits

Most organizations of anima seekers will provide the essentials to members when they are at once of their halls and equip them with the basics before they set out, but the primary benefit provided is simply access to other practitioners of the esoteric craft.

Perception

Purpose

The purpose of every anima seeker is fairly directly addressed in the name of their profession: they seek out anima, awakening the most powerful ones they can find. The context usually missing for those encountering one for the first time is the knowledge of what anima are and why anyone would travel so far and risk so much to find and awaken them. Animus is the name given by the Shattered Empire to the primordial spirits born in the moment a human first encounters truly virgin features of nature. They primarily feature in the religion of Kanō Rimpa and so are far more common there. No anima seekers are allowed in that nation, however, as their priests fulfill the same function but with reverence rather than fascination or desire for power. Wherever anima are awoken, their mere presence more difficult for beings from outside Khthon to intrude onto it let alone the high probability of any who succeed rousing the spirit's ire. for that reason many anima seekers accurately see themselves as a defense against demons and other invaders. Some anima seekers however, have another reason for their activities: anima can be bound to other sapient beings, and this is far easier to accomplish for the one to awaken them. Once bound, they can be an enormous source of magical power, if somewhat difficult to control.
