Archbishop
Qualifications
Though appointment does not require any specific accomplishments, accolades, or even aptitudes a new Archbishop does need to pass a series of exams and interviews before being allowed to fully assume their responsibilities and privileges. It is structured such that one exam grants one responsibility and one privilege, but the significant majority of Archbishops have simply taken them all at once and become fully vested in their title over the course of a single day.
Requirements
There is no barrier to eligibility for appointment, any person on Khthon named by the eventual consensus of the High Ecclesiarchy can be named Archbishop. Before their appointment can be made however, they must stand before Dawn's Cradle and bear the scrutiny of Saint Lyndon the Serene.
Appointment
The average layperson associates the great ceremony held in the Nicclesia conferring the Archbishop with the Silver Sceptre and the Blade of Letholdus with the appointment to the office of Archbishop, but this is a misconception. That ceremony is merely a confirmation, the Archbishop was appointed the moment they returned from their solitude before Dawn's Cradle.
Duties
The primary duty, and indeed the sole purpose of the Archbishop is to wield the political and secular authority of the church in service to the High Ecclesiarchy. Though he is thought of by many as the head of the church, it is the position of service to the High Eccesiarchy that is the most important part of his duty, the rejection of political and secular powers holding primacy over the church being the cause of its split from Orthodoxy.
Responsibilities
The Archbishop is the head of the church's administrative and military branches, as well as the final word in relations with nobility and other secular authorities. He is given a great deal of respect by the clerical orders of the church and overwhelmingly deferred to, but in point of fact the High Ecclesiarchy maintains direct control over those matters.
Benefits
Every need and every non-sinful want of a sitting or retired Archbishop is provided by the church with no questions asked. It is the position of the church that authority is a responsibility rather than a benefit, but quite a lot of it does come with the position for those who disagree.
Accoutrements & Equipment
Outside of very specific ceremonies the Archbishop simply wears the robes of a bishop, only the Silver Scepter and the Blade of Letholdus, when carried, marking them as different.
Grounds for Removal/Dismissal
The Archbishop is subject to removal by consensus of the High Ecclesiarchy or the intervention of a Saint.
