Mojksium (‘moycksee:um)

For centuries, rumors abounded about the marvels of the Ancients. It was said that they invented magical artifacts far outside the bounds of human comprehension, only hinted at in the scarce findings of scholars and old, pre-Collapse writings. These artifacts are thought by many to be lost, swallowed by the Kačkan Abyss and its shadowy monsters, the šluaks.   Mojksium was invented by Ancient mages during the war against the dragons. Its name translates to "living metal," and it was formed by the transfiguration of metal using powerful magic. To date, no human has ever managed to recreate the conditions that led to the invention of mojksium. Unfortunately for the Ancients, the discovery of the metal came far too late to lend them a significant advantage in their war. The only fully-realized mojksium artifact was completed by the Ancient people trapped within the Kačkan Abyss. It is there that this artifact, what they call a golem, remains, dark and silent.   Mages used to believe that mojksium was the antithesis to aleksium (name meaning "deafening metal"), which nullifies magic. However, since the discovery of dragon's breath and dragonglass, this theory has been struck down. This led scholars down another line of thinking: "living metal" might not mean metal that gives mojy, life, but that is alive instead. Ancient writings speak of homunculi, small, metal servants that they could direct to complete tasks. Presumably, these were forged from mojskium. They take an immense amount of magic to power, however, making the idea of powering a large one impossible…supposedly.   The golem was to be powered by Alda's Sigil, Alda being the inventor of both artifacts. This never came to pass, but if someone were to be able to reunite the two, they would find themselves in a position of great power.
