Master Rolan of Ravenwolde (a.k.a. Cardinal)
Rolan made a name for himself during the Rebellion and Civil War, where he served as General Erin's right hand and head healer of the Crimson Wing forces. Even prior to that, however, he was hailed within the Council of Magistry as one of the most advanced rising mages they'd ever seen. He was appointed to the position of Mage Primus at the young age of twenty-three, the youngest Mage Primus in history.
Born under a half-full moon in the month of storms, astrologists would not be surprised that Rolan is hotheaded and impulsive, nor that he showed a high aptitude for magic. Nulan is the god of intense weather, after all, and Yktis is the Patron of healers. He demonstrated the ability to manipulate mojy as a young child, but was discovered by Asa before he could be sent to the Katzan Conservatory. Asa enrolled him in the Chema Conservatory to begin his education, but soon realized that he was advancing far quicker than most of the other students, so he transitioned to private study instead. Through his schooling, he met Asura, another of Asa's students, and Erin. He would later become instrumental in the conflict that eventually decided the fate of Kima, Erin becoming cursed by his own hand, though he did so unintentionally.
Now, Rolan keeps to himself in the Katzan Cape, hidden from prying eyes. Ragna has been searching for him for the better part of a decade, with little luck. No one knows what he's been doing there, whether it's quiet contemplation or training. He is one of the most powerful mages in the Empire, after all.

Identifying Characteristics
Like all Kiman mages, Rolan's face is decorated with magical tattoos that denote his status. The red dots on either side of his eyes signify his initiate training from the Chema Conservatory in the study of the gume school, or earth magic. The red dots around the bottom of his eyes signify his novice rank from the Chema Conservatory, and the sharp, white lines extending down his cheeks signify the novice rank in independent study in leuyix, energy magic. The red dots on his bottom lip and chin signify the proficient status from the Conservatory, and the white lines are the proficient status from independent study. The red swirls on his cheeks signify the advanced rank from the Conservatory in yuna, water magic. Finally, the mixture of circles, swirls, and sharp lines on his forehead symbolize his master status achieved both from the Chema Conservatory and in independent and private study.
