Dimensional Layering

In the universe the realm of Kindevion inhabits, there exist many worlds, considered to be other planes of existence, each with their own appearances, inhabitants, and laws of physics. They are considered to be planes due to the nature in which they lie atop one another. Of these planes, there are three that are known of and studied by the Royal Academy of Vush, the most prestigious school of learning in the realm.

The Physical Plane

The physical plane is the lowest of the dimensional planes, as well as the plane which the realm of Kindevion and its creatures inhabit. This plane exhibits a natural flow of time and physical laws such as that of gravity and the conservation of energy. The physical plane is made up of countless isolated realms, which are best described as bubbles, each with their own peculiarities and aspects. Travel from one bubble of the physical plane is not possible unless one travels to the Astral Plane first. Hell is the only bubble the inhabitants of Kindevion are aware of, which is Kindevion's closest dimensional neighbor.

The Spectral Plane

The Spectral Plane envelops and lies above the dimensional bubbles of the physical plane, and as such it functions as an identical copy of the physical plane in terms of geography. However, this plane operates on fundamentally different laws of physics. While the flow of time in the spectral plane is identical, the effects of the laws of conservation of energy and gravity are reduced. This means flames cast in the spectral plane burn half as bright and half as long as in the physical plane, color cannot be perceived in the spectral plane, and the effects of gravity are halved. When the spirits of the dead pass from Kindevion's physical plane to the astral plane on their journey to Hell, spirits of particularly strong wills can become trapped in the spectral plane. These spirits make up the spectral plane's only inhabitants. Since the spectral plane lay atop the physical, these spirits can affect the physical plane, although usually in very minor ways. However, those with deep spiritual or psychic connection, as well as those who have had a deep exposure to death and loss, have sometimes been known to observe these spirits in the physical realm. This ability is known as Deep Sight and those who possess it are known as Deepwalkers.

The Astral Plane

The Astral Plane is the highest known plane in the universe. It is understood to be a realm of pure creation and magic, in which the universe's most primal forces dwell. It is also known as the Astral Sea due to its endless, unmappable nature. In this plane, the laws of gravity as well as the passage of time do not exist, and so it is impossible for a mortal in the Astral Plane to age. This plane also exhibits enhanced laws of conservation of energy, although the nature of this effect is unknown. For example, a flame ignited in the Astral Plane could very easily evolve into a chaotic firestorm, but it could also simply fizzle out. Another quirk of this plane is its ability to interact with the thoughts, emotions, beliefs, and desires of mortals. For example, if enough mortals in the physical plane believe in a particular deity, that deity will manifest into being in the Astral Plane. Kindevion's creator gods, better known as celestials or primeval forces, dwell in this plane, although their whereabouts are unknown. In all physical realms except for Kindevion and Hell, the souls of mortals end up in Astral Sea as their final resting place, in which they coagulate into clouds, nebulae, and occasionally vortexes.
